The three-minute video of a modified Subaru racing up and down a suburban Christchurch street attracted complaints from around the world, The Press newspaper reported. In the footage, the Impreza WRX performed 360-degree spins and burnouts before crashing into a tree. At one point the car almost collided with another vehicle driving in the opposite direction. "Members of the public recognised the street and police were able to track down the owner of the car through the registration seen on the internet and identified the driver through analysis of the film," Inspector Derek Erasmus told The Press. James William White, 20, yesterday pleaded guilty in a Christchurch court to a charge of reckless driving. He was sentenced to 120 hours community work and disqualified from driving for nine months.
