could be the the accelerator pump (the vertical pin you refer to  )
but that usually causes a cut, not a miss..
bending the tab down (where the linkage to the throttle shaft is) will result in a smaller shot of fuel, not a larger one...
to get more fuel, you bend it up, so that the accelerator pump starts in a higher position..
be aware that this can drastically change fuel consumption, esp in city driving!!
