If you already have a built 1JZ with aftermarket cams, manifolds, turbos etc and you want to upgrade to 3.0L, it's cheaper and easier to build a 1.5JZ than swap in a 2JZ. This is because the manifolds and related hardware aren't compatible between the 1JZ and 2JZ.
