The tyres used on drag cars are uber-sticky and the compound is designed to work best at higher temperatures... that's why they do a burnout before racing, to get the tyres up to their operating temperature. Road tyres on the other hand are designed to work at much lower temperatures, and will actually grip much less when they get hot. The gimps doing huge burnouts on normal road tyres at street meets aren't doing themselves any favours, but it seems like the done thing so everyone does it! A small burnout isn't a bad idea to scrub any crap off the tread, but you don't want to get street rubber too hot. [Report message to a moderator]
