My friend with the MA61 is still having problems I think. He went Sydney -> Bathurst on the weekend and it overheated the whole way. I got him to have a poke around, and take out the thermostat but it didn't help. When he got here, we had a look at it. The thermostat was fine, the water pump was fine, the fans were fine and there was nothing blocking air flow.

It still seems to be overheating though. I thought maybe there was some air in the head or something. We replaced the thermostat and flushed the system a bit but it still seemed to be running hot. Sitting idleing the digital temp sensor went between 1 and 2 bars above halfway. We didn't have enugh time to take it for a decent run.

The engine has a 6MGE conversion, are there any bleed valves in the head or anything? Are they hard to get the air out of? Do most people run the stock 5M-E radiator with the 6M?

Recently a mechanic who may not have known much about the import engine swapped the head gasket. I assume that he couldn't accidently put the stock 5ME head gasket on, but if he used say a 5MGE gasket would it block any water galleries?

Thanks for your help,

Tim.
