Hi there from England. It's raining again. The T50 box is behaving itself just fine. It is one of the early ones with the smaller input bearing and has been rebuilt with quality bearings but otherwise standard. It is filled with SAE 80 Light Viscosity gear oil as used by the motorcross fraternity. This was recommended by the gearbox builder. Not cheap though!
It is the sweetest gearchange I have ever known, as long as you don't try to rush it or crash the gears through.
The car itself only weighs just over 500kgs so the load on the box isn't as much as it might be if fitted in a saloon with similar power. It's probably around 150bhp, 110kw on Solex40's.
It is fitted with the standard 3SGE clutch plate which has rubber shock absorbers instead of springs. Again this could be helping reduce the shock loading to the box.
I understand there are a number of Clubmans down under running 3SGE/T50. I think the gearbox survival is largely due to the low weight of these cars.
