A bit of Gasket sealant is not going to hurt the situation at all, I'd use some, just not too much like some people who think it can be a 'replacement' for the gasket itself.

The order should simply be a criss cross fashion, like what you should use when you change a wheel. The reason for this is to make sure that the manifold is flush or square with the mating surface.
