Sun, 02 March 2003 04:52 Learned to drive on: 1983 Ford Econovan (Mazda E1600) - my brother's car - an ex-govt running LPG and those silly little 12inch rear wheels Column-shift 4-sp man it could top-out at 100km/h on the straights! Wow! 120 down hills! "Fast" cornering consisted of balancing body roll and throttle...too much body roll and the inside rear hiked off the ground and due to the lack of factory-optional LSD (hahaha yeah rite...) the open diff spun away all the power before returning with a satisfying "chirp of power" as it got re-planted on the deck... 1994 Honda Civic - my parents' car - a comparative magic carpet but deathly boring GLi SOHC non-VTEC sedan in AUTOMATIC. No rear anti-roll bar so it liked to roll oversteer when u tried trail-braking Ricified a bit (until I could afford my own car) with 15ich TSW Hockenheim-Rs (16s were pretty 'extreme' bak then!) and Australia's Best interpretation of a 'sports' muffer (boomy as hell...piece of shit, but i guess it was $120). Sparco pedals too and my dad(!) hated the stock plastic wheel so he hocked it for a Momo Corse 350 (as per NSX type-R of the same era) heehee love that wheel My cars: 1963 Volkswagen Beetle (still own, in garage awaiting funds and restoration). Could only afford a shitbox so thought I'd get a funky shitbox, and definitely NOT FF. After bein scared shitless by unexpected trail-braking roll oversteer (thanks Mr Honda..) needed to learn about oversteer and correcting slides. Also Porsche 911 is my fav car so why not kill 2 birds with one stone? Also poor-as student who couldn't afford speeding tix but wanted to feel like I was going fast haha. So hooked up a 36Hp Standard (RS model? haha) Beetle, the one with no fuel gauge, trim, carpet etc etc. Had HEAPS of fun with that car, learned to to extract 110% out of it on and off-road, hmm....rolled it onto its side...flipped it back...kept going Awaiting 2 new RHS guards and roof beating, will get new custom 2-tone paint when time and money (and TAFE course in panel beating....sometime) allows. 1984 Porsche 944 (bought a month ago, was trying to save enuf for a kick-ass AE86 with Turbo conversion but didn't make it...) Okay okay I don't own a Toyota, but there are MANY toyos in my 'dream' garage...just gotta wait till I'm rich haha. I love my Porsche, doesn't kick-ass in any one area, but it's such a good package, does most things pretty well (like eating money =p) considering I wanna improve my ability as a driver (like Takumi??) and be able to handle a car confidently in all situations, I want a good "leaner drivers" car not like something that will scare me shitless with my currently abilities (180SX, S13 etc etc). Will hopefully buy a turbocharged FR drift-puppy of some description one day hehe can't wait! PS: My frens drive an '85 ST162 3S-GE and a '90 MR-2 Turbo 3S-GTE so am I forgiven??
