Also when you do a test drive.. see how the owner drives it. if he trashes the crap out of it every gear etc. and if he doesnt ask him to bring the revs up alittle higher to see if anything goes wrong top end.

Yeah, when I was looking for RA65 Celica one particular owner drove it before I did and they thrashed it. The owner was someone I knew from Uni so they said a deposit was put on the car before I bought it, to save me from buying his car, which I was told, had its share of problems.
I know this is (a bit) off topic of AE82s, but it is applicable when buying any used car.
