Yeah I have seen Bills site. His project has a little more money behind it. Due to limited funds the cheapest way for me to get the 200hp I wanted was a 3T-GTEU and using as many factory Toyota parts as possibe.
I started with a TA63 Carina (which is where the firewall is from) for $100. Motor was no good but got me a W55 in good condition. I am also using the TA63 front crossmember, struts and steering as well. Just need to attach the castor arm and sway bar mounts. Unbelievablely the steering column bolted straight up and the crossmember is only slotted 1cm each side.
Since I was using the Carina crossmember, that set the engine back a bit (better handling) so decided I may as well use the Carina tunnel to fit the gearbox. Just measured from the crossmember to the gearbox mounts to get in the right place and was only $400 for the labour. Next the Carina rear end (IRS F code) is being fitted for $800, cheaper than most other diff options as not only do you need to get the mounts welded to the diff but you really need to move the body mounting points for decent handling.
Main advantage is I end up with mostly common factory parts in the car for when I bend it (which happens to most race cars at one time or another).
