Yeah mate... ive got the same issue with my ae92 age.....
little trick.... try switching the engine from on to start rapidly till it starts kicking.... it worked for me.... i get a little click and a kind of straining noise and sometimes no straining noise... but that little trick always works within ten seconds....
Youll be right to change the starter anyway.... cos if its already been slammed by the heat you dont want to repair it, install a heat shield and then have to take the whole f%&@ing thing apart in 6 months... But if youve got the cash.... it might be cheaper to buy a whole damn engine.... and keep the rest for spares or sell it on... over in new zealand the junkyard people are absolute thieves... unless your buying something big....
