metal chunks?? doesnt sound good... has it been detonating? head gaskets can break down with detonation, but i dunno if any pieces of the gasket would be noticeable on the spark plugs.

plugs should generally be a brownish colour on the electrode if fuel mixtures are good. white/grey would indicate lean, black carbon = rich, wet = oil.

are they rough with buildup, or is the surface pitted from detonation?
