When it happened the car automatically shut off. I drove it back to this party then home later. It went alright at first but by the time i was almost home i had to leave it at a mates house because it was so bad.

No, that's the reason why the bearing spun. If you checked the oil level regularly, I'm almost certain we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Is putting another engine (1jz) in a cheaper option. My parents will be paying for the engine up front, they dont really want to get me a turbo, so the easier it is on the pocket the better it will be.

The cheapest non turbo option is replacing (and then looking after) the 7MGE. A secondhand 7MGE will set you back 700-1200.
Contrary to popular opinion, engine conversions generally aren't cheap. A 1JZGTE conversion will set you back around 5K (ballpark).
