Audioslaver: it's likely that your tank level sender is worn, and thus shows an empty voltage to the gauge, even when there is still fuel there. when it's totally full, does it show slightly below the F mark?
in my understanding, the senders work on variable resistance, and this will get higher as they wear out,so your readings on the dash will alter.
I have a digital dash in my car as well, and have a similar problem, but worse. mine has a dead spot between about 3/4 full and 1/4. the gauge will occasionally work between those levels, but will generally display dead empty. I have to use the Odometer for the main, and then watch the gauge as it comes good when the tank starts to empty out. with the secondary scale showing 9 marks(out of 15) I will get fuel surge if I push the car hard, but it will be fine dribbling along in traffic for another 40km or so. a refill from the sec-scale 10 mark is 42L.
the car has a JDM EFI tank, and OEM fuel pump.
carby engine/analogue dash fuel level senders are not compatible either btw.
