Last i heard is if the car was made before June 1976 it doesnt require the cat or unleaded filler neck as it didnt have a certain ADR that post June 1976 cars have.
Jamie spoke to a friend who has a car pre '76 and this ADR and his engineer made him fit cat and filler neck because engine was unleaded, this may vary form engineer to engineer, but sounds fair to me.
Best thing to do is make a cat that you can unbolt and bolt a peice of straight pipe in its place for racing etc, or leave the pipe in until you get defected or have to go for a pink slip. Thats what i will be doing if the engineer tells me i need one.
BUT don't want until you get a defect for having no cat if your car requires it because the EPA can fine you on the spot, no questions asked $1000 - $5000.
