single entry CT26, such as the ones on 7MGTE's and "apparently" some early 3SGTE's have a conventional exhaust housing with one inlet combining the exhaust flow from all cylinders. There is a single wastegate port & flap within the housing to control boost. This is simple to manufacture, and fairly compact.
The twin entry CT26 has (naturally ) two inlets in the exhaust housing. these pair the flow from cylinders 1&3, 2&4 through the manifold design, splitting them to meet the turbine wheel 180 degrees apart. This way the exhaust gases 'hit' the turbine in two places with alternating pulses due to the grouping of the cylinders, improving the spoolup time. The added advantage is that there is a substantially sized wastegate port & flap for EACH of the two inlets, allowing much more bypass air to be flowed for excellent boost control at higher boost pressures.
clear as mud?
Cheers
