Stich Welding is a form of seam welding !
When you seam weld a car with a solid weld it has no give in it at all and can crack with the flexing of the car body. It does make the body more rigid.
Stich welding is the same practice only instead of 1 long weld down each seam you use a series of short welds. I have been told the optimal is an inch long weld then an inch long gap.
Downside - Looks a bit ugly and the lesser informed may think its accident repairs.
Upside - Greatly reduces body flex for improved handleing. I personally swear by it and noone seams to mind how it looks on the show car !
