agreed. the rear seal on toyota (& many other OEM)turbos are no more than a single ring seal, like a piston ring. if you pump too much oil into the core, it saturates the rear of the shaft, & it only takes a poofteenth of oil through the ring seal to make a lot of smoke.
If the seal is worn beyond its limit, a turbo shop is likely to charge you labour to dismantle & reassemble the turbo, bead blast the exhaust wheel & possibly rear of the core, plus re-balance the shaft & wheel assembly. Most will recommend putting a complete kit through the turbo (bearings etc) while its apart. If you can convince them to replace the seal only, expect to pay around $200 ($70 labour, $6 seal, $120 balance). Its a lot of labour for a part worth under 10 bucks.
