From memory the camry manifold comes down into a twin pipe flange, with the twin pipes extending about 600mm from flange to collector, combined this system is basically a crude 4-2-1 system. Those of you familiar with a std 2T- maifold will understand the concept. This design basically extends mid-range rather than top end that the 4-1 style of exhaust. If the manifold is adequite for the flow capabilities of the head, a considerable improvement in overall performance can be had by installing a freer flowing exhaust from the collector back. The design of a 4-2-1 system, if tuned with the correct exhaust system, physically scavenges the burnt gasses form the chamber across a defined rev range(controlled by the many thins such as primary vs secondary tube lengths/diamaters, exhaust system flowing capacity, port shape, etc.) Extractors or "factory headers", as opposed to a manifold, generally pair primary exhaust runners relevant to firing order, such as pairing cylinders 1/3 and 2/4 to take adantage of the pulse(i.e. cyl 1 exhaust valve closing as cyl 3 is opening). Sorry, just got carried away with theory and design.
