My Supra is going to be off the road next week to get the clutch done, so I thought It would be a good chance while it is at the mechanics to put some decent cams in.

What cams should I put in the 7MGTE to gain extra power or acceleration ?

I heard the NA 7MGE cams give gains of around 15KW. Is this true ?

Can I get my own cams ground ??? can this be done ?

Can my standard computer handle lumpy cams ??

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Cams are exxy. Longer duration cams will require the lobes to be welded and ground. This will set you back around $1000 for both cams. Cam people I would recommend you talk to would be Tighe Cams, Wade Cams or Clive Cams. These three companies have extensive motorsport experience. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DISCUSS THIS WITH THE IDIOT MECHANIC "BASRA" THAT TOLD YOU THE R154 AND THE V160 BOXES ARE IDENTICAL.

Your standard computer should cope with cams of up to 270 degrees advertised duration. However, your valve springs will not tolerate in excess of 8.5 or 9 mm lift - they will be coil bound (speak to Ed ma61 - he has done tonnes of research on this, or Stenno, who actually has some TRD 7MGTE cams, valve springs and shim under bucket setup for sale). So if you want more lift, you'll need new valve springs. If you go for more than 9 mm lift you'll also need to go shim under bucket. That'll set you back another $1000. However, does your head flow enough to support cam lift of greater than standard lift? Have you had the head on a flow bench? If Toyota follow tradition, the exhaust side will flow like a blocked intestine. If you have not done any work to remedy this, increasing lift will be a waste of time. So then you need to whip the head off and get it ported. Another lazy K.

I want wild, not mild, but dont want to spend shitloads of money.

Mutually exclusive. 'Wild' will require an aftermarket ECU. Add another couple K.

Mmmm......might just put some cams in......
