Snapped throttle cable!

After waking up sunday morning, I was playing around with my car & decided I needed to go up to Auto 1 for a few things. It was an uneventful trip, but as I headed home I decided, "bugger it, I'm keen to go for a cruise".
So I turned around, & headed up the Old Pac Hwy.
It was a typical sunday, hundreds of bikes out, and every single car I went past was something special.
First an old GT falcon, in schmicko condition. Then a lotus elise with some sweet looking racing bodykit. Then a shelby cobra, replica no doubt. Then porsches & skylines & rexs. It was a really good day to be out cruising.
Anyway, I had a nice drive heading north, and when I got to intersection just down from Peats Ridge I hung a right & headed towards Kariong, which has got to be one of the best sections of the old pac.
So I followed it along to the roundabout, & started heading back, & was having the nicest run, really getting stuck into my new tires, when all of a sudden, my foot sinks to the floor & there's nothing, no throttle art all!
I was going quick enough to be able to roll to a good spot to pull over, & it'd snapped right where it's clamped to the pedal. I was there trying to fix it for about 30min with car after car & bike after bike hammering past!
Eventually I ended up crimping it back together with a blue size electrical connector, & drove the 50 or so kms home on about 25% throttle!
If the electrical connector didn't work though, my next option would have been the bonnet release cable.

I had the total oposit happen to i one of my rolla's once the throttle got jammed wide open about 10-15 k's from home very tricky driving through the city in traffic with it like that. I was lucky it was a 3k with a webber on it from a 2l escort so as long as i didnt let it rev past about 3 grand it wouldnt get away just bog down.
Intresting trip though.

Haha, Joe, you'd better be there when we head out to the Creek!
The throttle cable snapped right where it was clamped through the bolt on the end of the pedal. The bolt was fixed to the pedal, so as it rotated with the pedals movement the edge of the hole that the cable goes through was cuting into the cable. It had been working at it for quite a while, & a large strand of the cable had already unraveled a few inches.
After fixed the cable I loosened the half of the bolt that goes through the pedal, so that it can rotate when the accelerator is pushed. It has a nyloc nut on it too so it shouldn't fall off.

Don't even sweat it ben, 4As don't need no Ts to beat no 2T peice of junk!
I think it's time to put your motor back into retirement joe, it's had a hard life. I'd hate to see you hurt it trying to keep up with a 4A.

its a holden/ford hijack
good to see it didnt cause any damage or anything serious... couldve snapped right when yoy hit the throttle to get out of a sticky situation with bad results.. these old cars need their checkups every now and then fellas, keep yourselves safe out there, lots of dickheads about... (and those who are the dickheads, no offence, but theres nothing cool about it, track is better )

hahahah true, but seeing as you bumped it, im gonna reply too
This happened to me also (the snapping and the sticking of the cable on seperate occaisions)
the cable grabbed because it was starting to fray and the unwinding strings got stuck into the plastic/metal sleeve when i accelerated... shit myself as it climbed to 8k and killed the ignition and pulled over, realised what was happening and fixed it for the time being so i could get home..
got lazy and a few days later i went to pop the clutch and dump the accell, and SNAP... got a lift home, ripped off my mountain bike's brake cable and attached it.. no dramas
Point to the story? if shits wrong, even minor as it may seem, FIX IT
