18r-geu spark plugs

Hi Guys
Long time listener first time caler.
I am trying to rebuild an 18r-geu and after a few little hiccups along the way (tighten the cam bolts cos they cause weird looking shapes in the valves) i am up to the spark plug choice.
I stole (borrowed) an old celica car manual which states to use bpr6ey plugs i think from memory but that was for an 18rg.
The spark plugs that are currently in the car are of the bp5ey variety.
And hunting around this neat little forum has come up with a bp6es or bpr6es choice.
Now confused little Barnsey (that's me) doesn't know whether he needs the resistive sort of plug or the non resistive plug.
Is there a way to tell what sort of plug i need for my car.
all information points to a heat range of 6 but what about the resistive bit.
Will it cause complications if i use the wrong sort. will my car go bang (again)?
am i making any sense
can you go easy on me (yes this is the first time i have pulled an engine apart and i have no idea about half this stuff but there is only one way to learn i guess).

resistor plugs reduce the electrical interference caused by the ignition system usually heard in the radio.

So does that mean if I use the resistive sort, the only thing it affects is a better sounding radio (of which i don't have cos i haven't gotten to that stage yet).
Thus don't worry about the non resistive kind.
Are the non resistive type spark plugs used in specific applications, ie there is a resister somewhere else (the lead or coil or something like that for instance and if so what would I be looking for in that scenario to verify that non resistive plugs are required)?

from what ive read,w20exr-u (nippon denso) or
bpr6ea & bpr6ey (ngk) are for 18rg's but On my 18rgeu I used (nd)w16exr-u not a worry.

We are currently using BP7es plugs. Some say BP5es, some say BP6es or the same choices but with a "y" suffix.
We chose the BP7es plugs because the engine wouldn't stop when you turned off the ignition, it just kept running over. I heared that the rally guys use the BP7 plugs, they did make a little difference, but it still runs over.

Arg, mine does that too. Its so annoying. I just put on the handbrake and drop the clutch. It usually stops after a second or anyway but one time it did it for 5 or 6 lol. I was informed that it was due to the timing being too advanced.

actually the reason behind the running on could be excess carbon build up, roll down to your local subaru dealer and ask for a can of upper engine clean or pn "SA459" for like $25
we have found that this is the best stuff on the market, dont buy the $2 bottle of wynns start ya bastard,
it'll look like u are doing a dirty big bunout when the stuff goes thru your engine so make sure u have plenty of ppl around to witness

Thanks guys I appreciate it, will get some spark plugs this week and see how I go.
But by the sounds of it, as long as one is around the right heat range in all spark plug catagories, it shouldn't be too bad.
Side note: Don't know by any chance what leads I should be looking for? Nothing seems to have that long plug thing that goes all the way down the rocker cover on it. (please don't say custom leads needed)

For spark plug leads, I can recomend NGK. They are avaliable, and fit very well, also made in Japan to the same quality as Toyota (which are not realy avaliable anymore). Only they are blue 
For spark plugs, I agree either BR5 or BP6, very little difference realy. Or the Denso W16 or W20. But I was wondering, would there be any advantage to using the new iridium plugs in a 2T-G/18R-G? I hear Titanium last long but don't have any special performance against copper ones. ???

I got some eagle plug leads (E84168) at Sprint Auto parts.
They don't look quite like the originals but they do the job.
These are blue.
We got this batch made up custom, but they should be able to do it now, if they kept the details of the ones they did for us.
They are 7mm eliminators but I'm sure you could get 8mm of different if you really wanted to.
You could also use the normal off the shelf eagle ones if you can measure the lengths you need.
You could also use Top Gun ones if you could be bothered paying $77 for the set (inc. postage)

The NGK catalogue is avaliable on the net. Just do a search, or www.ngkspark.com.au
I can not recomend Top Gun, as they don't fit very well. NGK are good.
Also Bosch has leads listed but mostly unavaliable. They look good. B4664i for 18R-G

i have got a set of top gun's on my RGU and they are very good, no probs at all, even tho my little redline filter leaks, the oil doesn't go down the holes.
pn TG4446, i paid $25 for my set but that was trade, i can get them for you for $40 delivered to adel if u want
