2T-GEU Oil & Other Questions

Okay,
Well I've driven abit over 5000Km's since I bought my car, so I figure its time for an oil change. Its got some BP Oil in it at the moment, tried to buy the same Oil at BP servo's, but cant find it anywhere, so I figured I'd go with Penrite or something. What engine oil can people recommend for all year round use for a 2T-GEU?
Another question is how many litres of Oil does a 2T-GEU take to fill up completely?
On another note, after driving the car abit harder than normal( 4500-5000 RPM) or on a really really hot day(but it happens at night sometimes too), the idle can be quite strange sometimes. The car usually idles at 1500 RPM cold and 1000RPM normal. But sometimes after driving it hard for abit the normal idleing rev's will drop down to about 200 and over the last month its stalled on me 3 times. Just curious as to any causes on this?
I was doing a search around on these forums and read that this cars engine did have some oil pressure issues(not sure if they were ever resolved), could that cause this problem? Its intermittant so its hard to tell(70% normal 30% f*@king annoying). The Oil pressure guage in the car is on the minimun normal level, but the dipstick in the engine is 3/4 full, but sometimes the Oil pressure guage reads at half, so I was thinking maybe a dodgy guage and just read off the dip stick. I'm not sure if the Oil pressure guage is proportional to the Dip stick level(I'd assume its 1-1, but I dont know). Anyway any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry for the length, but I just needed to spell it all out.
Thanks

if the motor is in good condition, i reckon use a decent synthetic. i use mobil 1 in my 4K and it makes a big difference, especially when cold (as it has pretty stable viscosity with temp). if you are having trouble holding oil presure, maybe a thicker oil is needed?
dipstick and oil pressure gauge read two totally different things. dipstick tells you how much oil is in the sump, and the level is arbitrarily chosen by the manufacturer so that you can lose a bit and still be ok if you stay within the marks.
oil pressure gauge tells you what pressure the oil is as it moves around the motor... this is the reason you have oil in the sump.. to maintain oil pressure.
if you are concerned about the gauge, go and get a new one. VDO if you have the cash (there are some for $45 on ebay regularly), or Pricol is a bit cheaper (like $30 odd a gauge + more for sender). if you are ever going to buy one aftermarket gauge, oil pressure should be it you lose oil pressure, you lose the motor.
idle prob?? no idea, maybe vacuum leak?? check manifold gaskets and vacuum lines

I find that with my 2tgeu (it has twin carburators) many of my idle problems were due to the distributor. I found that my points were worn and after hard driving it caused a poor idle. The rest of my problems were with the twin carburettors, they required a tune. As you have EFI it does not realy apply to you. As oldcorollas mentioned I would check all the vacuum piping (Around distributor, manifold).

Personally I wouldnt use Synthetic in your 2TGTE, I have a 3TGTE and I dont even use syntethic oil for the motor. Reason being is that these motors were made when synthetic oil wasnt around therefore they were made for the use of regular thicker oils.
I am no expert but I have been told by many not to use synthetic in my 3TGTE let alone a 2TGTE, I would go the penrite oil, I always use this and have no problems with it, so far.

well, i reckon since my car was designed for 20w-50 (ie 50 weight oil when hot) using a synthetic with 5W-50 means that at operating temp, the oil is same thickness, btu when cold the oil is same thickness, so there is less of a 'warm up period' when the oil is thick and sluggish and doesn't get to all corners of the motor (like rockers etc)
i have usd all manner of oils in my 4K, from 5W30 to 25w60 looking for what works best for me... i've settled on the 5W50 mobil 1 cos:
1) no warm up time for oil... warm is how long it takes the intake manifold to warm up.
2) oil burns much less. much longer between changes.
3) sounds much happier at 8000rpm.
but thats just me. i wouldn't go anything less than a 50wt for an older motor as the oil does get too thin at high temps. but saying a 50weight synthetic is thinner than a 50weight mineral doesn't make sense
