ke25 brake upgrade Mon, 01 December 2003 11:54 Go to next message
Anyone wishing to upgrade their brakes for their early corolla might find this interesting. Had to upgrade when i dropped the rotor in and had fitted audi vented discs with commodore calipers and used a vh-40 remote booster with standard master.
they pull up unreal everytime. muv.

sorry for the late reply!!!!
you will need to run a 13" steel rim to clear the discs ( i used mazda early 323 rims )
no need to change struts and you retain standard stud pattern.
cant honestly remember DBA no. sorry.
the place that made up the backing plate was Mr Enforcer Engineering

They do heaps of brake upgrades and were really helpful..

the caliper and disc conversion was just under $1000.
i actually used a Ford KB laser master ( really cheap ) but the VH-40 remote booster was around $250 reconditioned.

did you only run your front brakes through the booster? I am running 4 spots on the front and single floating on the rear with VH44 remote booster and am trying to get a nice braking proportion

only the front is boosted on mine as i still have drum brakes on the rear. you might just have to use a proportioning valve
(if you arent already using one ). if you still have problems then just boost the front, with 4spots you should still pull up with no hassles.

cant remember what model discs but the calipers were from a VN-VP series commodore. the discs are vented and slotted and pull up hard everytime. talk to Matt from Mr Enforcer Engineering for more info.

only 6 months ago i fully rebuilt the standard brakes, new rotors, calipers & lines marginally bettr but still fades under hard driven.does the 12a go hard?? often toyed with the idea of putting a rotor in mine, but decided i want to stay toyota driven with a big hairdrier Evil or Very Mad .

you can get Wilwood valves for about $100.

will still be tricky tho, as you have two different systems. the amount of pressure between the front brakes and rear brakes is not linear, so it makes getting the bias right a bit tricky...

yeah the 12A goes ok but like everything you get used to it and want more!!! turbo and injection is next when i get the cash.
despite reconditioning your brakes, upgrade the front at least or brake fade will haunt you forever....trust me i know!! Very Happy
