 Raced current spec WRX Sti ....

Ok not really ... i was not intending to race ... as i am sensible now ...
funny thing was that i already shifted into second gear at about 15km/h and that was when he pumped 1st... 2nd .. 3rd...4th..5th etc in sortof a winner fly by .... but alas he was only racing .. himself EHAHEAHEAHEA
I Gd up the guy by just passing by him ! hehehe
he also made sure he ran the next red light so we would not meet at the next lights to get a proper run ... pussay

those late model STi a heaps fast. my friend has one and standard they faster then slightly modded skylines, 200s etc...
had a run with him one day for fun in my 2 and he gave me headstart about all first gear and slightly after changing into third he had already overtaken me

yeh those rexies have really short gears
bang bang bang they are off !
love to get one on a rolling start as i dont like wasting my tyres

Or you can just keep practicing and find "the edge" of where you break traction, and keep it under.
