just wondering, and this is targeted at MR2 owners primarily (havn't seen a lot on the toymods website) if they have done the conversion of the 3SGE to the 3SGTE engine because its what i want to do because i plan on starting out non turbo and changin later on.. if so, how long did it take? was it hard? How much and how hard is it to get a hold of the 3SGTE engine (knowing it comes from the GT4)
thanx

If you do a search for this, you should defineltly come up with the very answer to your questions.
One thing I will say is, that you'd be crazy to try the conversion with a GT4 engine, get a rear cut from an MR2 Turbo and bolt it all over.

ohok, i always asumed because they say, the same 3SGTE as that in the GT4 that you would be able to do a straight switch...but thanks

In theory the GT4 engine could go in, but if you have a MR2 Turbo 3SGTE, you will be able to bolt in the box (some of them are LSD), and be assured you aren't going to have any clearance issues

Also if you took the engine from a GT-Four, you may have some engine mount issues (front-mount compared to mid-mount).

where can u get half cut's from, do you have to import them? or just hunt around for wrecked MR2's and check the engine is aight? i herd it costs around 5 - 6 grand including installation.. anyone done it here. i'm worried about the insurance on the turbo car. There was someone i was talking to once and he is 24, said for full compo under his name was like $6000 a year
any MR2 owners, what do you pay for rego and insurance? i need ta know this before purchasing, so that i can buget for when i do buy. I'll be buying a non turbo to start off with probably.

For half-cuts, try importers like Just Jap at Kirrawee, or Ichiban. I found Just Jap have a very large range, and if they don't have it, they'll usually know who does. They get shipments in from Japan all the time.

The other option, unless you are REALLY attached to the car is just buying an MR2 Turbo, should be some around. As they say, nothing like a bought one and conversions however easy are full of hidden problems.

at the age of 19 they wanted $7000 for full comp. (not the best driving history with speeding offences ) So i pay third party $800 still through just cars.
rego is as a normal car.
And the half cut would cost you around 4,000 at the most. Unless it was the gen 3 motor wich i would expect to pay 6,000 at the most, however they are very hard to come by. I would buy a mr2 turbo a gt model there is just so much more, for the money, or if you can find the gts its the equvillent to your car just turbo.
I know i would never look back only the GT for me.

my insurance for my 91 turbo is 6000, of course i wont pay that, i opted for third party also at 800 or so...will be taking out third party fire and theft when i get around to it.
i agree with mr.2, ive got a gt model and the amount of extras over the aussie version is great...leather interior,4 wheel abs, electric foldable mirrors, moving driving lights...the list goes on... shop around and you can pick yourself up a baragin.
