well, last night finally got the car out to wsid, having recently filled it with optimax on the way, just cruised out there...
got on the strip for my first run, the car went CRAP!
once ide hit about 5500rpm, it had no more go, at all!
(makes peak power at 6400rpm)
lead to a bit of embarissment after my first run, 18.2
last run i was down to 17.0 which is still more than a second what i was expecting!
im pretty sure its a fuel issue as its just struggling up high, my launches didnt feel too bad but plenty of room to improve, it sure took a while to get to 60ft, my 17 second pass had a 2.7 60 ft time!
i will NOT hack it!
i'll get some BP ultimate in there and see if its happy again, as soon as its sweet, im back for revenge!

I've had no incidents at all with Optimax. You might have gotteon a bit of the ballast at the bottom of the tank when you filled up.

How about Mobil's Synergy 8000? It's 98 Octane as well...
Sorry but I refuse to use BP at all.

Umm, why? It's like the best fuel. Synergy is good as well, it's only Optimax that receives the constant complaints.

It's been said from a while back (even when fuel hit 95c/L) that BP holds the monopoly on prices that we pay at the pump. Something to do with BP being the market dominator of fuel stations. OPEC might govern how much oil gets processed per day (in the millions of barrels) but at the pump, the prices are reflective of the monopoly held by BP. It's a little hard to explain, but I have an email sitting in my PC somewhere that outlines very good reasons not to use BP, best fuel or not. I think there's even a thread somewhere on here that reflects that email. It said that if we boycotted BP fuel that the prices would invariably have to come down.

I disagree with BP's market dominance. My uncle used to work for shell and took us on a tour for the refinery. Lets just say pretty much everyone got their petty from there including BP trucks, indepepndents Ampol etc ,etc

On a serious note, ive used Synergy (13c above regular), Optimax (10c above regular) and Ultimate 8-9c above regular), and to be honest Optimax gave me (AE86 4ag) the best throttle response and kms/per/ltr, Synergy was good, the motor ran well (no where near as good as Optimax), quiter but the $$$ was killing me, and Ultimate was a mix of both
Now i just use Ultimate.
Someone should seriously think about testing the fuel at the pump, i mean who's to say where getting 98 octane, the same people making us pay bullshit $$$'s for fuel, the same people who raise the price on pay day for 80% of the population, time for the fuel companies who-ever, where-ever they are to wake up and smell the coffee.
And the government needs to change the fuel taxes, 40% per litre(or what ever it is) is fucked. and for what, better roads, bullshit. It should be a fixed amount not a %
Just my rant ill go away now.
Cheers
Steve

meh.
pimp boy ran his dodgy 15.8 with a gaping power hole from 5000-6000rpm and a FULL tank of whatever mix of crap was in the tank.
jesse - if you are still using points, then this is the problem i used to ahve with the 18RG. I installed an electronic dizzy and had much better high RPM power after that. This could also be attributable to dodgy points and dodgy dizzy etc...

I cant see it being a coincidence, my car runs rough when i use optimax, and soon as i change to vortex or other it revs cleanly. The ultimate test was on my motorbike, they are a lot more sensitive to bad petrol, put in optimax it ran like dog, reved out very bad constant flat spots, again chaged to synergy and it was like a new bike.
