I remember pulling many a one of these out of trouble in my old Subarus
Unfortunately, the Toyota just isn't made as tough to cope with this kind of treatment. Hard packed sand & gravel roads they do well at though.

Yeah, I'd be ditching the 4a & gearox & substituting a 3S-GTE & 4wd gearbox instead. Much stronger (& more powerful)

Not with the standard motor anyway.
Its all a case of how you drive them too.
People reckon that Subaru gearboxes are weak. But thats what happens when you clutch dump at 6000rpm & flatshift in a driveline that doesn't have a slippable clutch or spinable wheels.
