Hemi into ta22 Tue, 22 October 2002 00:47 Go to next message
I have a spare 265 hemi lying around at home and was wondering if it is possible in any way to put it into a ta22 legally?

inline 6's are a biatch to fit in the 22 engine bay ....unless u move the firewall back...

if u want a 6....may i suggest a V6 ??

the 2mz-fe pumps 200 hp .....and the 1g-gte pumps 210
so the 2mz-fe isnt a bad choice
but apparently its rare as

how about the 1mz-fe ??

Why settle for a 265, you would be come a folk lore legend if you put a 427 chev in a TA22 Razz and even drove it around the block just once. Just imagine the sound. Shocked

i thought that in VIC there were dont any regulations on the displacement of a convert engine, just as long as it was newer and met all the engineering rules.
It would need SOME SERIOUS BRAKES to be able to be engineered, and some serious body work to strengthen it so the body didnt look like a bent spring after one drive.

I've seen a 1uz-FE legalling installed into a ae86 in VIC

LOL... you might as well try to squeeze a Rolls-Royce Merlin in there! 265's are fricking huge, you'd never get one into a tiny TA22 engine bay without recessing the firewall half a mile.

Even if you did pull it off, I don't think the performance would be adequate to justify the effort. The most powerful version of the 265 from the E49 Charger had around 300hp (that's a gross measurement BTW), which isn't that spectacular these days... it would be much easier to extract 300hp from a warmed-over 3T-GTE which will bolt right in!

nah i saw it in ZOOM and it said it was registered.

"Registered" is not the same as "legal". Smile

(I'm not saying this particular car isn't legal, just that rego plates are no guarantee that a car is road-legal).

Jamie's car was engineered and fully legal. He went to a lot of trouble strenghtening the chassis, it has awesome brakes as well.

I'm not sure exactly how it goes in Victoria, might be a case of you can do it, if you make sure the rest of the car is made to support it.

Also, the 1UZFE will be a HELL of a lot lighter than any iron block V8 or Hemi...

If u register a car in another state with different regulations...then go to another state as a permanent resident with regulations that dont suit your car.....r u forced to comply ?? or its all good ??

errr, no.

im trying to buy a car in ACT... and to do so the NSW rta laws are as follows.
- i can only drive the car for 14 days in NSW (as a nsw resident) before it has to be re-registered in NSW.
- to register the car in nsw it has to pass all the stuff as if it were unregistered for more than 3 months which is:
- blue slip... which means you cant have the converted stuff from another state as it wouldnt comply here!

hence can;t happen mate!

in the case of Jamie's TA22, registered DOES mean legal...

you will go a long way before you find a car as competently built, and as comprehensively engineered... the attention to detail extends far beyond the engine bay. this is a very professionally planned and executed project.

if you are not impressed, you don't know what you are looking at.
