Supra #2

well last saturday yeiled the purchase of the second ma61, affectionately named by my sister "Buffy"...
1984 toyota supra
super deep red
deep red interior
W58 5 speed manual
fancy stuff:
7M-GTE conversion
3" stainless steel exhaust and dump pipe with high-flow cat
HKS metal headgasket
recondition radatior
heavy duty clutch
K&N air filter (whoopee )
MSD tach adaptor (tacho works)
currently running 5psi
yokohama 245s all round
autometer boost gauge
dynoed at 139rwkw and 14.3 1/4 mile by previous owner
originally bought as a donor car for my ma61, but the spanner was thrown in the works when we realised how good condition it's in- doesn't look as good as my white one, but everything is tight and it holds together better than the white one, so the big dilemma has occured...
i don't really like the red, and the front bar is off for a respray anyway, so i'm thinking of getting the red car resprayed black- my sister will keep my current white one...
anyway thats it. ill post more no doubt

Haha is that a zip tie I see holding up your indicator? I had to do that too when I drove around for 4 days without a front bar. Did you take off the bar yourself? How much of a bitch was it?
And yeah, some pics would be in order I think.

Glad that you are happy with the car. It certainly drove well, and has helped me get my act into gear and get going on my car again.
I didn't mind the colour, and the fact that the interior isnt the stripey shite.
Have fun with the car and be careful !!!!
And BUFFY - eeeewwww. Gotta change that !!

Option A) Get a manual cruise computer.
Option B) Put a switch on the clutch pedal such that when its pressed, the computer thinks the car is in neutral, and when its out, the computer thinks the car is in "D".
Only problem being is that you have to start the car with your foot on the clutch.

well, today i went around panelbeaters asking about a respray (in black ) im looking at around $3000 for a good job.... which let me look around the car and have a good look at it... the air filter was black with dirt instead of pink
also found a bit of rust in the tailgate which will occupy me for a weekend or so.
so i may still whack it in the white one- either way, it won't be staying red, unless my sister gets it...
also lost my sunglasses today which was a fucking annoyance

cheers glen
im keeping buffy fairly low-key, and the real fun will be when i plant it into the white supra (better car )
but it will be at the drags sometime soon. perhaps next years nationals, when the project is complete? that'd be fun
but until then im getting used to what a 14-second car feels like as a daily driver...
anyway, heres an engine bay pic, ill get more pics soon:
at the moment, ive cleaned the air filter (super dirty) and had some coolant hoses tightened- it leaks coolant a little, but its all looking good now.
after it gets swapped into the white supra, ill get a boost controller, turbo timer (i forget ), suspension bushes, springs and shocks, then brakes.
meanwhile buffy will recieve the white supra's (in good health) 5me and so on, and ill attack the rust in it's hatch tomorrow, and probably attach the front bar soon. a cut and polish will also happen tomorrow

as for the rust, it isn't too bad, leaks a little but nothing drastic. theres some decent sized areas, but i use this rust treatment shit, then bog it up good, then use some black silicone on the outside bottom of the windscreen frame just in case. (the silicone that doesn't attract rust, that is)
its just a temporary thing until it gets resprayed...
but on a good note, half the car has been cut and polished, and it looks quite schmick
and tim, hopefully i wont do my licence again...

Hopefully the swap of the 7M into the white car and 5M into the red one will begin within a week or so

car got cut and polished and detailed today, coz it's going in to get the headgasket fixed tomorrow. probably just a standard gasket with aftermarket head bolts torqued super high.
i've also bought a celicamad boost controller which will go in when the engine gets swapped into the white car.

I think the problem with making it 'unstealable' is that whoever is in the process of badging you will get frustrated and leave you with a much bigger paintjob bill than just a missing badge.

Or you can modify the front so if someone touches the badge, it disappears under the nose panel like the Rolls Royce hood ordainments
Good luck in getting a replacement...

got it back last wednesday, no boost for 500kms. then head retorque. then very minor boost for 500kms. then another retorque. then good to go. after a little while the boost controller will go in.
have a set of gauges (boost, oil pressure and volts) to go in the din spot. customising radio surround atm. not finished yet.
good to have it back, but sad i cant boost it. all the 7mgte and bits will be in the super supra soon.

well, 1000kms later i can drive it as normal now.
just sorting out boost controller install issues (want to keep the lifetime headgasket warranty) and then i'll get it tuned and ramped up to 10psi...
but next things are:
new tyres (yoko a509s)
wire up gauges
wire up new cd player
get front bar painted (plus touch up shit bits of paint).. perhaps a black striping design too...
but at least the damn thing is running, and i've got it registered and it's all legal now. woohoo.

nah didnt need an engineers certificate, managed to do the dodgy and get it RWC and rego'd without one. nearly shit my pants though when vicroads were looking for the engine number on the side of the block- the roadworthy tester wrote the 5m engine number. in the end they couldn't find it, so they used the SA records on the pooter instead. woohoo.
