Bah Battery dud (dead)

I recently purchased a second hand IBM R40. The battery has been charged 240 times and now is given up the ghost. I have three options.
1. Freeze the battery hopefully it might add to the life.
2. Buy a replacement battery on ebay, not genuine IBM but claim to be as good.
3. Spend upwards of $250.00 for a genuine battery (not keen)
your help is greatly appreciated.
Oh yes if freezing the battery is bad or very bad could cou please write back soon as it is in the freezer in a watertight container.
regards tony

How much are the ebay ones?
Anyway, your real options really are to get a repack or a new battery.
Here is a link for a place that I got a brand new original toshiba battery for my tecra 8000 a couple of years ago:
http://www.instantit.com.au/search/Results.asp?Sor t=FullName&SortOrder=ASC&txtKeywords=ibm+r 40
Hopefully a suitable one is in that list.
BTW, for a repack at the time it would have costed me more than double a new original battery.

the genuine ibm ones are normally about the 250 mark. we have one in stock at my work as we were incorrectly supplied it by ibm... the battery we should have got was for an r40e but they sent an r40 and are pretty much refusing to take it back. give our sales team an email and they should be able to hook you up with a deal if your interested.

oh and most places like battery world etc cant rebuild these packs. most of the newer laptop battery packs have systems in them that prevent them from eaisly being rebuilt
