**EDIT... 4AGTE lives here no more. See next page for an idea of the new plan
This engine/turbo combination had been fitted to my previous car (TE72) since December 2002, but has now found its way into a lighter corolla panelvan, with a few changes.
Car:
1984 AE71 Corolla panelvan, originally fitted with 4AC & 4 speed T40
Engine:
-1989 4AGZE 1.6L 16 valve
-Bigport 4AGE head
mild port cleanup, recut valve seats
-Performance Springs heavy duty valve spring set
-Wade 267 degree billet cams
-8.9:1 compression
-ARP head stud kit -RWD 4AGE inlet manifold
-1.25" steampipe turbo manifold
-Garrett GT2535 turbo
-3" dump pipe & mandrel bent exhaust
-Front mounted intercooler (600*300*76), 2.5" aluminium pipework
-13BT 550cc injectors
-Haltech E6X ECU & boost controller
-pierburg lift pump, VL EFI pump, custom surge tank, 8mm lines
-custom blow off valve
Driveline:
-W55 gearbox with aftermarket bellhousing
-20V 215mm flywheel
-Custom 1025kg pressure plate
-3" one piece tailshaft
-MK2 Corona "F" series diff, not shortened
-diff centre fitted with larger bearings, custom solid pinion spacer
-Lexus IS200 Altezza type 2 torsen LSD hemisphere
Brakes, wheels & suspension:
-Front RA23 struts, 295mm vented Pajero discs (custom adapter), magna calipers, ADR approved braided stainless brake hoses, King lowered springs
-Rear standard corona drums, reset leaves (2" lower) with extra leaf each side, KYB shocks, urethane bushes throughout
-2002 Camry brake master cylinder, larger bore.
-Concept 5 16x6.5 rims (+20 offset), 205/45/16 tyres
-Custom front strut brace
Paint & interior:
-Cobra Monaco fixed back seat
-RPM 3" 5 point harness
The rest is crap. its on the never ending list!
Performance:
1/4 mile 12.57 @ 111mph (WSID) (old turbo, clutch, diff & head setup, soon to be updated)

hey Jesse, it weighs 960kg as it sits now. Was obviously a fair bit lighter before the bigger driveline, brakes etc.
Never did convert the T18 to rack & pinion, just stuck with the original steering box. This car's steering feels soooo much better though.
Cheers

thats the same turbo im running on my rolla, fwd tho. from where i see it it is going to be a perfect match for the 4ag. still has a small(ish) rear housing but a nice big front wheel and cover to suck in loads of air
what power did you get out of your previous setup??
mine is almost exact to yours now, same turbo, injectors aswell.
good luck and im sure ill see ya at the track soon.

TE72_Turbo wrote on Fri, 22 April 2005 08:17 | Hey ROllaGTi: Its really hard to keep track of what different suppliers call each turbo, from GT25/28/25R/2535/2530/2540 and so it goes on... quite frustrating when you are trying to choose a turbo hey!
How do you find the response of your GT2535? Would you have full boost by say, 3500rpm? I'm guessing yours has the compressor housing with the two bolt inlet, and 3 bolt outlet, like this?
|
Full boost is pretty late about 4500-5000 (its starts spooling around 3000)
But with a strong diff and box like you having lag isnt a problem just reclutch it

Only the compressor housing is huge, its specs are not really that massive.
Any extra power over the old setup is a bonus, but it would be nice to crack 200rwkw

didn't you achieve 185kW at the wheels with the old turbo. i have a feeling that most likely you would get 220kW+ at the wheels you turbo is massive compared to the old one.

hey mate, had my car on the dyno today. let me tell ya, i hope you like lag my car hits boost at 4-4500rpm, before that its pretty much waiting, waiting hits pretty hard tho.
my WTA cooler is not workin properly, air blocks everywhere, made 202hp on 16psi. bout 150kw. had it runnin rich still. when cooler is set up properly, and not leaking aswell it will be back on the dyno and were gonna up the boost to prob 20 psi, i will have a ice box setup for it aswell.200kw may be harder to get then i thought.
good luck mate, any updates?????
cheers,
jason

No real updates, the car has been sitting unregistered and in parts for a couple of months now, really gotta get stuck into it sometime
I am however going to use a different turbo to the GT25 pictured above, as its going back on its owner's 20V. Results should be similar though.
MrKE20: when you say 4-4500rpm, is that when it starts making boost (ie: more than zero manifold vacuum), or when it makes full boost? I can handle some lag with an 8000rpm rev limit. Cams should help it get there & still make power.

No complaints on the Hybrid cooler from me I have seen several of them, and I must say that quality does vary greatly between them, its a bit of a lucky dip. Mine has really good quality welds compared to some i've seen.
600x300x75 sits quite nicely in the front of a KE70/AE71.

havnt looked at this post for a while, boost starts earlier, but as you would expect you can really feel it untill it goes past 10psi, which is usualy bout 4-4500rpm. starts bout 3-3500rpm. but it does help with the traction side of things as your moving pretty fast before the boost hits.

Updated specs
|
Tue, 26 July 2005 12:53
|
|
Okay, the car's been off the road for a while now, so better update some specs:
Reconditioned bigport head with mild porting (really just a cleanup of the ports, nothing too serious), recut valve seats, Performance Springs heavier valve springs (thanks Allen, excellent toymods sponsor, cut the import brand's price by half), Wade 267 degree billet cams.
ARP head stud kit.
Larger 20v 215mm flywheel & custom 1025kg pressure plate
Rebuilt F series diff centre, machined for larger pinion bearing, custom pinion spacer (no more shitty crush tube, it was knackered ) larger side bearings & Altezza type 2 torsen LSD hemisphere.
GT2535 turbo
Soon to hit a dyno near you Then its back to the track.

Yep, but the carpet don't fit I didn't know it was bonded to an MDF board, so I can't get it under the horizontal bar that my harness bolts to.
Gotta run the diff in unfortunately, I just wanna strap it to the dyno now & tune it so we can have some fun!

Phil you are a nut.
What is the clearance gonna be like?
I think you may have problems with not enough belt coverage on your crank pulley. Then again because the PS and aircon is gone the load will be significantly reduced, I guess youll have to just suck it and see
Also have you thought about blacking out the "C" pillar between the windows? I think it may look better like that, just my opinion but

It will be very tight, its looking like some light modification to the firewall to make it more comfortable.
That same belt setup is used on another 1JZ conversion here in canberra, works fine, so I copied it. I dont think the alternator has enough load to slip the belt on its own.
I want to remove the windows altogether in the rear panels, they look shit Its been on the "to do" list for a long time.
