1JZ Single turbo adaptor Tue, 02 August 2005 13:22 Go to next message
Hello all,

Rex made this adaptor to allow a simple, neat and very cost effective single turbo solution. It has not the external gate provision.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Rex_Kelway/1JZT3Adaptor5small.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Rex_Kelway/1JZT3Adaptor3small.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Rex_Kelway/1JZT3Adaptor1small.jpg

As with all Kelway shite, the internal surface of the collector etc is well smoothed

Pictured (but not included) is Rex's 1J with the adaptor and external-gated GT30R, so this is what it could look like.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Rex_Kelway/1JZSingleTurbo1small.jpg

Includes fasteners and postage witin Oz

Looking for $250 or there about

SUPER NOTE: Can also do these with external gate provision, T4 Flange, or even twin adaptors for twin T25 flanged turbos.

if one were to procure a pair of T25 (or T28) adapters from Rex, would these be extended adapters for top mounting like the one pictured, or be shorter and designed for low mount?

Interesting stuff.

Anyone know if there is much difference between this adapter and a proper made manifold? ie. Performance wise. Like how much power these adapters will support before they are no longer efficient.

Rex, how fast can you make these?

A proper manifold will have much better flow, but I must say, as much of a dislike that i have for said adapters, that one looks pretty damn sweet, and I doubt your notice a great deal of difference between the adapter and a full spaghetti manifold. except the $100's.

Okely Dokely, Some Answers:

The motor pictured is indeed a ex-JZA70 1JZGTE. However all the TT versions should have the same manifold configuration.

Rex supposes their is no problem making high or low-mount T25/28 adaptors. Just depends on the space you have to play with. Also can probably be done as two adaptors or two seperate custom manifolds.

Performance wise, a proper tubular manifold would have an advantage, But how much? is it worth it the extra money?

Given that Mr Donnon has seen 270rwkw on the stock manifolds and turbos and that the adaptor would flow considerably better than the stock ones it has to support this level atleast.

Saying that, If someone has the access/ability to test the adaptor and a tubular manifold back to back, or even to dyno test the adaptor in the near future, Rex would happily consider donating one for test purposes.

Time to make one is about 3 days.

Rex

GimRex a head with manifolds and measurements of space allowable and it can be done.

i would say this will give good response but would not provide as much top end power as a full manifold.

but for the money, would possibly be a good starting point for those going to a single on a budget.

I would also be interested in one with a T3 flage with external gate provision.
Is the price the same or more expensive?

Cheers

Price is the same because (A) Rex is Rad and Bodacious, and (B) Its doesnt take too much to put it in when crafting it.

Given the scope and number of 1JZGTE conversions the adaptor is designed to keep the Turbo as close to the motor as possible so it should fit in pretty much anyting.

Plus, there is no end to how many ways the adaptor cat can be skinned.

To be on the safe-side though, best to provide a photo and some measurements/clearances with which to work in.

Rex

Nice work Rex,what else is in your product range? I am looking at 2xT25G nissan turbos onto 1J,short as possible, match ported. Was thinking to try a design myself and perhaps offer it but not even near starting yet. So,may be a customer.Let me know when you have something to look at.
I hope people take advantage of your good work here Rex,Heat is power and your design is nice and short.Should be good, agree you need some dyno figures.Must help the punters see past the lack of bling! Cheers.Pete. Smile

Thanks muchly Pete, means alot coming from a man in your field.

Its not really a matter of taking orders. Just, if you would like one, just supply a deposit (enough to purchase materials) and what you require.

But...

Am getting a variety of flanges cut so a couple can be made as demonstration/photo mules so people arent buying blind.

Give Rex a few days.

Hi,

Fingers is interested in this nifty invention of Rex's. How much do the materials cost so he may get Rex a deposit to get one of these babies made?

FYI, car in question will be a JZZ30 Soarer.

Cheers,
Fingers

Rex, this is a great idea !!!! i will be very pushed for room in the ole 180sx engine bay, so this is a god send !!!!

i am interested in the following tho....

1. can u make with larger diameter piping, so as to aid greater flow?

2. any chance of lowering the turbo flange/plate a little more? there seems to be about an inch or 2 of vertical pipe after the 2 join.. any chance of shortening this... i will also be pushed for head room in the 180 too Very Happy

3. any plans/ideas for bracing and support.. i plan on using a GT35R with this set up and it aint exactly a light turbo... there is going to be a lot of stress on the manifold joints...

i'll be very interested to hear back from u, especially about the first 2 questions, the latter tho, i can sort out myself....

cheers
Greg

the restriction/bottleneck is still at the oem manifolds now, you could use 3 inch tubing and it wouldnt make a lick of difference.

The OEM exhaust manifolds can be easily extrude honed for better flow - after being extrude honed and port matched, mine flowed enough for 327rwkw at 21psi on my old 1JZ-GTE setup.

Andrew from SPP did my extrude honing and found between 5 and 15% improvement across the ports.
He may still have the actual raw pre/post figures he quoted me at the time of finishing the job.
Cost was about $250 3-4 years ago from memory.

Hey Rex

Ben would like to see a twin low mount setup. JZA70 is hungry for more power.

Still making these rex?

I'd be pretty keen on one like the one in the photos, but with external wastegate provision. Smile
