Annual 86 meeting roadtrip (short trip) Wed, 12 October 2005 06:50 Go to next message
Hey people,
Same as last year this is happening again in Melbourne.
It will coincide with the Calder Park round of the Drift Nationals on 10/11 December.

The general idea is... 86 owners from all over drive to Melbourne (last year we had a big group from SA and NSW, also a few from QLD drove down)
On Saturday there is going to be some sort of social event, BBQ or likewise, and we can all chat and check out the other 86s.
On Sunday is the Finals for Drift Nats, So head to Calder on that day.
All up its one of the 86iest weekends you ever had!

My Plan is to drive over on Friday Arvo after work (probably leave about 6pm).
Drive to Melbourne (via Western Highway Cool.
Planning on it taking approx 8 hours.
Arrive Melbourne just after midnight.

Probably staying at the Formule 1 motel again.

Then Driving back to Adelaide early Monday morning.

Anybody interested in doing a similar itinerary?
We can drive over together.

UPDATED ITINERARY

We will be travelling via the Dukes and Western Highways.
Total approx distance is 725km each way.

Here is a preliminary idea of the itinerary.

Adelaide Depart 9/12 around 1800
33km
Mt Barker
65km
Tailem Bend
130km
Keith Major fuel stop (~20mins)
127km
Nhill
74km
Horsham Minor fuel stop (~10mins)
95km
Ararat
88km
Ballarat Major fuel stop (~20mins)
40km
Ballan
36km
Melton
37km
Melbourne Arrive 10/12 approx 0200 (if all goes to plan)

* A 'Major fuel stop' is for everyone to FILL their fuel tanks, have a bite to eat, hit the can, and have a stretch. I have planned these in larger towns because of their 24hr service stations. Stop approx 20 minutes.

* A 'Minor fuel stop' is for people to have a quick stretch, top up fuel as necessary, and hit the can. Stop approx 10 minutes.

(Also if travelling with a partner who is sharing the driving duties, use these stops to have a driver change.)

* I reccomend that you all purchase or borrow a handheld CB radio before the trip, as this will help us keep organised, entertained, and on time.

* I do plan on travelling in a tight group, all cars within eyesight at all times.

It will be up to you all as to how and when you return to Adelaide. But I will most probably be returning on Monday morning.

Please share with me your ideas and interest.

Also note, There will probably be an EXTENDED version of this weekend posted soon by Arch (or another 86er). If you have more time and money available, then go with those guys.
I'll be driving back on Monday daytime

I think I would like to go in my AW11. It should be repaired by then.

Would I be welcome or is this an 86 only thing?

I would also hope that these times take in to account driving at (or near) the speed limit most of the way.

I don't really need a big speeding ticket Wink

Terry:
Yeah, you are welcome to drive over with us.
As for the speed... We will be traveling at a sensible speed.

I recommend that everyones headlights are working well. Because 80% of the roads will be pitch black.

I will be packing a fairly adequate toolbox, as well as a scissor jack and 2 spare wheels. I suggest that you all do the same and we should have no big dramas.
