we are trying to get some photos hapening from cressi but cant find who was taking them tyres were street legal radial by m/t measuring 235/60/15 best 60 foot 1.70 auto and valve springs totally sagged therefore we cant pump more boost than 12 since it just dosent make any more power unless you add GAS : )

on the weekend
12.1 ET 118.9MPH 2.2 sixty foot time.
heat was a problem, track temp was 45 degrees ambient of 27 degrees. the stall is ok in cold weather but with the heat it wouldnt stall up. it either needs a bigger stall convertor or some GAS. im pushing him to put it on GAS as his class allows it for any car weighing over 3200 pounds.
it did run 11.80 at jambo QLD

Sport rwd/awd. Your car should be the same as long as it weighs over 3200lbs with driver.
Although, the rules may be revised soon hopefully. Because at the moment my 2.5L 6 turbo has to weigh the same as your 4.5L 6 turbo!

I know outright numbers are irrelevant, but the comparison certainly must mean something, this is nearly 170rwhp up on the power it had to run 11.3 !
The boys a currently doing some fine tuning and letting the dyno cool down ( they smoked it twice today) before a final power run.
stay tuned...
btw that is a totally stock motor, never been apart, its just straight out of the front cut with custom boltons !

Best of the day was 525 rwhp. Still having some wheelspin problems, but Jamie was happy with the result, the project has acheived everything he had hoped for.
Now just gotta get down the track for a <10.5 @ 130mph+ and then its time for GAS ! See if we cant find the limmit of the 1j block integrity.

Hmm-3200lbs eh? The crown might just squeak in there.. My guess is that it weighs around 3400-3500, but I'll weigh it soon.
Hey Onboost, With 11.3 that puts the cressida at either number 8 or 9 on the HPI over 2400cc radial tyre list.
If it's 11.36 or quicker, it's 8th (currently MY SPOT ASSHOLE with 11.37@122), and 11.37 or slower and it's 9th.
http://www.hpi.com.au/drag_records.php
Although I've run 11.04 @125, that was on McRearey G60's which are X-plys and so the run doesn't count for that list.
I'm hoping to run in the mid tens next time out with the bigger turbo, new plenum and new BFG 275/60 D/radials. (they should have a touch more grip than the Simex 225/70's I ran as an experiment last time)
Anyway-email a copy of the timeslip, the type of tyre used (to confim it's radial-I assume as you wrote 'street tyre' that they were radials) to Ben Ellis at HPI and the cressi should be included on the list.
That'll make 3 Toyotas in the top 10-the 8thsin supra at #1 with 10.46, and the Cressi and me at 8 and 9 with 11.3? and 11.37.
What mods does the a340 have done to it? Is it the MV autos ful house job? Can it still self shift, or is it a full manual set-up now? Has the converter lockup function ever been used at the strip? I ask as Mike and I were wondering if it would just fry if I activate it in the top of 3rd gear.

shane has been talking to mike about the 3rd gear lock up aswell. it will certainly be interesting what will happen. wont be nice if it fries the tyres. could be interesting drifting at 3/4 track in a big heavy car.

Doesn't locking the converter at WOT kill the transmission?
Usually it locks itself right? So are you talking about a switch to lock it?

yes chris, it will be on a toggle switch so thatt within the last 150 feet or so hit the lock up converter which will reduce the revs and give more top end as the tranny wont be slipping it will be locked up.
shanes is now full manual shift. its on the limiter across the line at present. so the lock up will help.
as sean was saying before also. tuning will be easier using the lock up on the dyno as the tuner wont have to compensate for the torque converter.

(Beware-brief thread highjack below)
Yeah-wot he said.
(I reckon that shanes, mine and the 11.3 cressi may be the quickest a340 cars in OZ at the moment?)
I have heard that the lockup thing is done on some Poopras in the US, but that the friction material doesn't last too long. I was also thinking that if when one of us takes off the skirt and does it-fucking the clutch in the process possibly-that I'll have a go with Mike at modifing the clutch to better cope. It might mean getting a higher clamping pressure-possible using a pressure multiplying acumulator, larger clutch surface or maybe multi plate. Until I see one chopped open though I won't know. I'll bounce some ideas of mike when I see him today though (MV is 2 mins from my house)
(continuing the trans discussion from your other thread chris)
Chris-as for the Manual Valve body, the A340 doesn't require any valve body mods to be manual shift. As it's a full ECU controlled box, to convert to manual shift you only need to control the two shift solenoids in the box. This can be done with the shiftbox from MV or the one from KDOG(?) on performanceforums. With no power or ECU hooked up to the box when you shift 1,2,D, the box will shift 1,3,4. You cannot activate 2nd, and the 2 gear jump ensures the box will is well rooted in very short order. (yep-I've done it-bits on the inside were fusion welded together. Brilliant Eistein-you would have thought the smoke coming out of the trans dipstick would have prompted me to stop hammering it...)
You do not need ANY mechanical mods to do this. When you do this however, you lose the lockup actuation and need to do it manually-by switching the 3rd solenoid in the box (again, just 12volt on/off). (I can also explain how to make up the unit yourself using a few bits from JAYCAR or DICK SMITHS if you like)
Valvebody mods are recommended once you start jamming decent power through the box however, as the shorter the shifts are, the less time friction materials are sliding and generating heat.
A trans cooler is mandatory-a big one. The A340 isn't really that more vulnerable than anything else, but as they aren't used that often and import people aren't generally experts on autos the trans cooling tends to be a bit forgotten.
As a guide, the trans temp guage I have tapped into the pan registered 140deg C on the dyno with the old (bad) converter and small cooler, and the fluid came out burned (goes orange) and the lock up clutch material de-bonded off the mounting surface. Diagnosis-140 is too hot (derr). I now have a big cooler with Dick Smith computer fans on it and when I went to the strip the temp only just reached 60deg by the end of the night. I have them triggered by the oil pressure swith so they are on whenever the engine is running. The fluid is still red after 2 dyno sessions and 2 visits to the strip.

I'll PM my number to you chris if you want to give me a buzz about your trans mate. You may need to be careful at the strip as the weak link is 2nd gear-and decent HP engines can turn the 2nd gear sprag to metal filings......
Take it easy
Sean

No worries chris-anytime. Just make sure you call me before you strap it down to the rollers so we can make sure everything is under control and that it's all set-up to cope with the power I suspect it may produce.
Your first job is to go and get a big transcooler and some of those DickSmith fans!!
When you get them I'll detail how you can wire them up.
With the possible 300+kw capability of your engine set-up I strongly suggest you start preparing your other half for when you smash second gear and then need to fork out one of mikes race boxes...........................
Give me a buzz today whilst it's all fresh in my mind.

Yeah, chris actually text me on the weekend and that car is now pumping out 345kws at the wheels, pretty outrageous, I like what his done to it although I probably would have kept the wheels, chrome and black always looks sweet although the p1 rims look great too.
That car was good fun that's for sure however I wish I'd put a 1j in it orignially, he probably wouldn't have been unlucky to have engine problems in it although I guess from that he probably has the fastest s13/14/15 in the ACT now

but jeesus christ its a whole lotta fun to drive in the rain... chris and i swapped cars, i drive a JZA70 supra. and man that 180 is fun

Chris
i spoke to Milan late last week. Milan is the guy who owns the cressida that ran 11.3 at heathcote.
he is running a 3500rpm stall convertor and a 100hp shot of nitrous the full length of the track. he also stalls the car up in 2nd gear, crunching it back to 1st gear on the green light, resulting in high 1.6 too low 1.7 sixty foots. he has hit the horsepower wall aswell and has decided in stead of head work and or cams he is going to a 2j and also a fully built race box from MV auto's. he said prior to the Gas he was running 12.5's 12.7's so the Gas made a big difference for him.
i would suggest you llok at a 3800 or 4000 rpm stall with the size of your turbo, and maybe even some giggle gas to help get it on stall.
cheers

So I assume that Milan was having trouble getting it onto the converter without N2O. That is certainly a huge gain from a 100hp shot. 1.2 - 1.4 seconds is amazing. Do you know what he has done to the auto now? Is it manual shift box, shift kit and stally but no strengthening?
I was thinking that the stall will need to be around 4000rpm also but I cannot be sure until the car is on the road (very soon ) I would prefer not to use N2O if possible so I will get the box built and stall converter done and see how that goes. I think there will be quite a few hiccups to sort out as that just seems to be the way things happen with my car. Also, then I would have 2 power adders and be even further from fitting into Sport RWD. I will have to see what is happening with that.
Are you going to go with N2O? If so, are you going to use it off the line or the whole 1/4?

JTR navara overboosted and was making some nasty bottom end noises after its run at WSID last wednesday.
The replacement motor is already in the car, just a few clutch mods and a new boost control system to go in before she will be running again this weekend.
Havent had time to pull the broken motor down yet, but we'll let you all know exactly what failed @ about 40 psi and 8000 rpm.
The plan was to push the stock motor as far as possible to find its weaknesses, 525rwhp with a totally stock unopened wrecker motor (+ bolt ons) was realisation of all Jamie's goals. Now the plan is to drive the car as is for a while and possibly build a stronger motor to run methanol injection or gas.
Stay tuned.

Thanks anyway mate So what are you waiting for?
J: Thanks for that. Went and had a look at fullboost. Looks like a very neat setup. I thought it was interest to note that it still retains the stock inlet manifold. Looks like it is using non-factory coils and aftermarket ECU. I am not quite sure what is going on with the pulleys up the front as it looks like they have gotten rid of unnecessary pumps (as have I) but there is a large pipe going to the centre section? Anyway, doesn't really matter I will add it to the list tonight.

I'm waiting for my suspension to be fixed. I've gotta go to sydney this weekend or next to pick it up from Jaze. Then I can get it to JT and get it put in, then I've gotta get the car to WSID and see what it can do.
I'll get it dyno'd soon atleast, put my chart up.

matt gilmore (aka hyp 077) owns magic performance in brookvale and is a good bloke. the silver 200sx on that video is another car out of his workshop which also does quite well over the quater.

Auto or manual?
Looks like you had some traction problems!
I think you should go in at 20 because you have the same ET as no 20. but higher MPH. What do others think? It would help if they were all to 2 decimal places.
That is also the first 1jz ra28 I have heard of.

if they have the same ET, then the mph is the deciding factor, congrats twinturbocelica, but can u also supply the 2nd decimal place for future reference
