hey dude,
how serious is your TRD LSD center damaged?
can't you just rebuild the center?
from what I remember, the kits don't cost that much.

Garthy Garthy
why didn't you check the splines before you ordered the D!!!!
that must be a hassle, considering how many people here would be running kouki diffs
me is thinking the possibility of chucking in kouki axles and bolting it all up, wondering if that'll work - but then again, the rarity!

so i just spoke to ben @ BEL garage
the pinion was the issue it seems, 3 out of 10 teeth missing
the ring and pinion is only a std 4.3 not a 4.5 like i was told by japanese seller...
the lsd was a cusco 1 way LSD, NOT a trd 2 way like i was also told by the japanese seller
but... the centre is ok at least!
and we're putting the new 4.5 ring and pinion in with the cusco 1 way zenki and new bearings (wheel and pinion).
should be interesting to see how it goes now with the REAL 4.5 ring gear... kinda funny i was drifting with a 1 way LSD not a 2 way like i thought... cant wait till i get my replacement zenki cusco 2 way! wewt!

so!
after a massive fuckaround with the diff centre. Ben @ BEL has hooked up the new 4.5 ring gear and 2 way ZENKI rs cusco LSD with completely new gaskets, bolts and bearings... along with the oil cooler, toda exhaust and complete brake overhaul.
needless to say the car is fucking awesome to drive... im speechless.. wait... nah im not... i'll tell you about it right now!
the LSD is SO quiet, i dont know what you guys are talking about with your noisy cusco LSD's but mine is super smooth and super quiet for an aftermarket LSD, only a little dull LSD knock on corners... and its not even run in yet! Ben has shimmed up the diff and there is not even a single bit of movement, the dial he used to 'true' it up sat dead still when i rotated the pinion... very impressed with the work!
so whats the secret to a nice quiet A/M LSD? QUALITY DIFF OIL! use GOOD diff oil like i did. KAAZ knows LSD's and KAAZ oil is fucking super smooth it is light weight but damn, no complaints.
I'll be running mine in with good KAAZ oil and then after 400KM's and some figure 8's ill change it out for another couple of liters of KAAZ. Expensive but my $2800 diff rebuild is worth it...
the exhaust is also equally amazing. without the silencer it is still fairly quiet (im comparison to other 'farty' cannons) but resonates with a fair amount of bass in the exhaust note. on throttle its growly and throaty and i fucking love it. with the silencer in the power isn't quite as good but the bass is reduced significantly! ill post a sound clip and pics asap
the brakes? still early days to tell really, the pads still have the protective layer and still dont stop too good. have to wear them in i think. but they LOOK pretty fucking good i must say.
the oil cooler i havent really had the time to test out either, the stock oil temp gauge is kinda vague also, but i guess it will produce results at any rate.
the reason i havent had the chance is because after driving it home from the garage the alternator died.... checked it out and the positive terminal on the alternator is fucked royal. fried and melted the rubber plug and melted the wiring loom about 2 inches up. cause? probably the corrosion on the wring due to it not being wrapped properly. *sigh* the wiring in this car is fucking atrocious and im sure the water from the drop vent doesnt help it either...
oh well, i guess when i re-shell the car into a new chassis, ill have to get the entire loom re-wired and re-routed for the entire car. i might as well if i plan to keep this little car forever.

Mine only makes noise when it shudders, and thats not noise from the diff, its the vibrations from the diff locking up the wheels
and thats only when im doing a tight u-turn anyways, there was a bit of plate chatter during the run in period, but thats 100% gone now. So my cusco makes absolutely no noise aswell, its just soooo damn tight
bit off topic but would a diff be better run in with rougher oil, and then run normally on smoother oil? im really not sure, but ive heard that ppl will run in engines on mineral oil before switching to synthetic, does the same apply with a diff?

why so funny? that's a 1300 centre a 600 ring and pinion, complete set of new bearings (including centre bearing) /gaskets/seals , and the labour to fit it all up correctly and with new oil (including fitting new brake setup at the same time as the diff)

well really its more like $2400 for the whole thing, the other 400 was for the fitting of exhaust n brakes n cooler n shit..
but still, in perspecive its a BRAND NEW diff so it should be right for some serious abuse for a long time
but its tru about your aus spec thing... never thought of that
ahh well, thats the price you pay for performance!
