The flares look like the TRD N2 kit for the AE86.

It looks like a rather poor job fitting them but I like the concept - worth considering for my little beast.

Baby's day out

My little baby had it's first outing today, a trip to the RTA emissions testing facility in Botany Very Happy

Being sick and tired of missing my emissions appointments I took yesterday off work and pulled an all nighter to make the appointment (yep, been up for 33 hours now, scattered as f*ck). It's still not complete, but it's at least roadworthy.

Results were good, it passed the emissions test Smiley =, so it's now up to the engineer, fingers crossed. The emissions test was a classic. They stick the car on the dyno and have it hooked up to a piece of software that makes the tester simulate road driving. I suppose it's a good way to see how it polutes when out in the real world.

It wasn't without drama though. I thought I was on fire a couple of times Confused. Still haven't worked out exactly what it was, but I think it was the oil I had covered the block with burning off. I'm paraniod after Fat's 4agte and Steve's 3SGTE burning down... but I now know how quick I can pull over, jump out and dive under the car with a fire extinguisher Wink

Confusious say: man with misplaced nuts, ends up with misplaced gooey mess
-=left the nuts off the turbo oil line, bye bye $50 worth of Mobil 1, doh=-

So only a few tidy up jobs to go now, I'll probably attack them on the weekend and try to book it in for engineers next week.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I'm appreciative of you holding and keeping an eye on the boost gauge while we were doing it Smiley =, it was good to see you again!

No boost cut with the new actuator, just a nice 5 (should be 8, but I think I need to adjust the rod) pounds. At 5 pounds it's not as much as a thrill as when we got that one or two boosts down the street, but it's still a very nice car to drive.

hay guys sorry to hijack the thread, but i have the right to cuz i have an aw11!!!!!
anyhow, i was wondering why my gze MAP has a sudden loss of power after 5000revs. is this because the s/c looses its puff? i have been told that it may be because the clutch on the supercharger is worn out and starts to slip at this speed.
ive also been told that the map gze's should be boosting right up to 6500 revs!
can some1 please clarify this for me please.
Thanks

welcome to the forum usually its caused by a broken/faulty knock sensor but can also be caused by a slipping s/c belt or a boost leak. Try getting the belt tensioned if that dosent make a diff id say its the knock sensor its a common problem on the gze.

Yep but a new one costs a shit load from Toyota
(Believe me I know)
Check your SC belt first though its a lot easier than changing the sensor.

If it is the knock sensor get yourself a 27mm tube spanner. Remove the starter motor and the little brace. Then you should be able to get the tube spanner on that sucker. (it is not very easy though)

so pretty much the problem can only be 2 things
1 - s/c belt
2 - knock sensor

so it cant be the supercharger clutch? or the supercharger on its last legs?

i very much doubt the s/c would be on its last leggs it will be either the belt or the knock sensor. If the sensor is faulty then the ecu will pull back timing and engine will loose power after 5000 rpm or so. If the s/c belt is loose then it will either make less boost all through the rev range or it will get to a certain rpm start slipping and will loose boost

good luck finding one second hand but i think new it was like $380 possibly more. A better soloution in my mind to fix the problem is to install and aftermarket ecu i saw a big increase in power with one.

kwazy vietnamese and aznp....

Have you tightened the belt. It needs to be pretty tight or it will slip. Most of time this is the issue...

Then try knock sensor

Also make sure you have a good air intake setup.

In testing modes (when I didn't have the engine lid on), I was using a massive fire extinguisher ( ask feral and gun metal, it was like a passenger Smile ). But I think the key to using a little extinguisher is to never open the boot lid, hence the "dive under the car". If the only source of air for the fire is really from under the car, around the engine etc, then I think you have a pretty good chance with the small extinguisher.

dry chemical extinguishers are the problem if i remember correctly from an article i read in RACE magazine. Someone had a similar problem with a fiat x19. Aparantly you need an extiguisher that can separate the fuel from the fire.

Supercharger belt was tightened and boost is now harder and more consistent.
But i think im having supercharger overheating problems...wen the car is just warm..u give it a few beatings and its nice n consistent...but after a few runs...the supercharger slips at about 5500...like its not boosting properly as it does down low...
When its cooled down, and run again, goes great...Until of course after a few runs and then it starts slipping again...
Is my supercharger on its last legs?

get a nice new belt... not just some $10 auto pro brand one.. get a good bosch/goodyear/gates etc belt thaty actually grips Razz

ive got an oil leak on the miss's two atm. its coming down the front of the engine so im guessing dizzy or oil cooler hoses. its a little hard to tell cause everything is covered in it.. i degreased it yesterday and hosed it out so hopefully i can find the culprit.

it *isnt* the centre seal on the dizzy as i whipped the cap off and there isnt any oil inside so im guessing its just the main o-ring.

the oil cooler hoses they should just be sweet to replace with pirtek oil 10mm oil hose ?

You might want to have a look at the cam seals, when they go you get oil everywhere...

ive got an issue with using the standard inlet manifold.

Im not using the t-vis plate altho i could if i need to and im having an issue with the inlet manifold not completley sealing against the head. The studs on the head of the gze are long enough but the thread seems too short.

I heard Feral said something about this possibly and that he fixed it by using 2 gaskets i think. I'm using the 2 gaskets but im not convinced that its sealing. Anyone have any ideas???

Should i go back to using the t-vis spacer and replace the studs with longer ones?

Ive toyed with the idea of using some thicker paper gaskets doubled up but im not sure that they are approptiate for an inlet manifold gasket..

I check this thread everyday but I only seem to post in it when I need some help. 89 NA bone stock. In gear and driving around I hear this really high pitched screeching at 2600-2800rpm. Until today it was only when driving but when it was idling in the garage it started doing it. I'm almost certain this is a belt because I have heard a similar sound right after washing it and ive seen water on the belts then. I just wanted to see if someone might have had this happen to them before.

Yep, definately belt slip. It's a horrible noise, but it doesn't really hurt anything too badly. Crank on a little more belt tension and it should go away.
