Hmm did some quick measurements

In stock form, the simmons clear my calipers by 25mm at their maximum width, however with a larger diameter rotor, the caliper will get awful close to the bolts holding the 3 pieces together.

My hub face front clearance is only 30mm thanks to Mr dish.

The stock rotor face is 40mm from the face of the rotor, i think im going to have to stick with rear mounting a rotor to make it all fit.

http://www.princeton.edu/~asad/zbrakes/

Looking at this page it would seem there is SFA difference between the width in the calipers and i would thus conclude that the 30mm rotor and caliper is a much better setup and will clear slightly better than the 26mm rotor and caliper.

Still need the width of the caliper and spacer though!

I have also view that page.

I have calipers from a 26mm rotor, and calipers that were supposed to be off a twin turbo, thus 30mm rotor.

They are identical in every dimension

Just checked that website again
And looking at these 2 photos

http://www.princeton.edu/~asad/zbrakes/images/8.jp g
and
http://www.princeton.edu/~asad/zbrakes/images/9.jp g

I have a feeling that all the calipers I have are from 26mm rotors.

Will double check tonight.

I will mock it all up later and see if you can get away with 30mm dish.

I think you will be a few mm short though.

Too late, already sold the spare pair. And unless I can find a set of 30mm calipers in the next few days, I will run with the 26mm calipers over the 30mm rotors (I'm pretty sure they will fit, just)
If not, they too will be available for sale.

Does the front track increase give any problems for engineering etc? What is the effect on handling (all other things being 'kept constant')?

The problem with the A6s are that, with the same offset rims front & back, the rears still tuck in a lot with the fronts sticking out more. With MA6x rims (+8) on my non-flared RA65, the fronts are even with the guards and the rears tuck in a lot. Now, that's not a such a problem - just go to higher offset rims so that the fronts don't stick out further.... except that they will now tuck in even more at the back.

What's the solution - staggered offset rims?

yep
when ma61 owners go big rims, the back is usually a lower offset (up to 10mm lower)

Well, you can't use the MA61 rims with the brakes so thats not really a problem Razz

As for the engineering, thats up to your engineer.

Lots of ppl who are doing this conversion haven't bought the rims to go over the brakes yet, so they just buy rims with more offset.

Nope, both my sets of calipers are from 30mm rotors (or at least fit 30mm rotors)

They are the ones in pic 9

me for example
one possibility will be early silvia rims, which are 4x114.3, about +20 offset. these will quite possibly fir with the +8mm increased track on the front. rears will still be an issue

Ok, using the Nice Products catalogue (http://www.niceproducts.com.au) this is what I have found

S340 - Most RWD Toyota (including MX73 and MA61)
listed as 40mm long (could not find on webpage, but am remembering from looking at catalogue)

S310 - Lots of cars, including 80 series landcruisers
listed as 40.1mm long

S312 - LN36/RN105/YN60-67 Hilux, Most Drum Landcruisers (40-50-60-70 series), Most Magna's
listed as 45.2mm long

S314 - Pajero Front
listed as 40mm long

S315 - Pajero Rear, Jackaroo
listed as 42.4mm long

Now, I think the S340 is a typo, and it should be 35mm long (or there abouts) but I didn't remember to recheck it.

The VY commie ones weren't on the webpage either.

Ok, I check the catalogue, and my MA61/MX73 wheel stud.

S340 - Most RWD pre 1990's Toyota's.
Knurl = 14.3mm
Length = 40mm
Shoulder = 8mm

That length SHOULD be 36mm.
I have measured an Aus delivered MX73, and a Malaysian MA61, both identical.

S381 - VX II, VY, VZ
Knurl = 14.3mm
Length = 48.4mm
Shoulder = 8mm

So, the best bets are.

S310 ~ 4mm increase in stud length
S314 ~ 4mm increase in stud length
S315 ~ 6mm increase in stud length
S312 ~ 9mm increase in stud length
S381 ~ 12mm increase in stud length

All are made by NiceProducts, and retail around $5 each.

Can you measure the width of the stock MA61 caliper and the nissan one and tell me the thickness of the spacer you are running to mount the caliper.

I need to know how much further they will stick out over stock ones.

Stock calipers stick out about 5mm past the rim mounting face.
Z32 calipers will stick out about 38mm past the rim mounting face.

This figure will be measured accurately when I get my rotors back.

The simmons hit the rear (about where the nissan writing was) where the bolts were (that joind the three pieces).

Each rim is different, and depends on the shape of the inner machining as well.

Ok, you have completely missed the point of what Frank was asking.

He wants to know, how much distance there was between the inner rim of the simmons, and the body/spring/shock (whatever is closest).

NOT the inside of the rims, and NOTHING to do with the calipers.

He wants to know whether your simmons could have fitted without the spacers and not hit the car/spring/shock.
And if not, how close did they get?

Ahhhh sooooo, he wanted to know rim to strut clearance !!

Oh, ok. With the 16x8" +25 rims and the MS65 hubs, the clearance to the strut (the tyre bulge meant that it was 5mm closer than the rim edge) was about 10mm. Any offset greater than +30 on an eight inch rim would be rubbing.

The rears had miles of clearance (even without the spacer).

I think they might (the 18mm rear calipers fitted over the 22mm thick Merc discs), but when I put new pads in, I had to remove all the anti vibration backing plates and it was still a little tight.

I ended up spacing the calipers out.

Fark me, what brand ?

Personally, I'd go for a reputable brand with a known quality and history, but that said, what are the specs ?

What is the cost fr slotted ?

No shit! The RDA ones were cheap. They appear to be pretty decent though, we shall know when CrUZsida fits them.

DBA slotted are $180 trade price.

$1350 Sad Tyres are about $200 a corner. Bridgestone Potenza G3's in 225/50R16. As soon as I get the all clear that an engineer can approve my 7.5" wide wheels (WA has this stupid 7" rule) then I'll be smacking my order down.

Yes it would have been better, but I was impatient; between broken cars and licence suspensions I've been off the road for nearly 7 months, so I wanted to get it going ASAP! Besides I have some other plans on the boil that will need to be engineered as well, so I'll wait until everything's sorted then get it all engineered at the same time.

You da man Cool

But lets try and keep this back onto the brake topic, otherwise it'll be harder for someone trying to research it to find the real info.

Correct.

Anyone else found any wheels that will have enough spoke clearance in the right offset and 4 stud ?

Seems that the Buddy Club's are an option for the non-flared people, but any others ?

Buddy Clubs are an option for flared people, if only I could fit the +12mm 17x8" wheels under my guards Razz

Buddy Club P1 - Titanium Finish - 4x114.3 PCD - +22mm offset front +12mm offset rear

Look like that, and am getting 16x7.5" all around. They have so much room for brakes Razz

Dude, I'm confused. I though you were getting those other ones you showed me.

There are plenty out there that will fit, its jsut that most designs aren't acceptable

I'm partial to these

Dunno about caliper fitment though, it wasn't an issue till now.

I liked the rims, but I didn't like them on the car Smile Remind me to send you all the pics when you're on next.

It would seem my mate has gone to the trouble of looking up various R33 parts for my brakes, so I might possibly be going in that direction. Sure, it'll be more expensive but it would also be good for stopping fast Wink Only problem is i'd have to part with my 15" rims Sad

If i'm upgrading the fronts, i'd like to upgrade the rears if only to create "balance" in the braking system. bbaacchhyy, you've done something to your rear brakes, what are the options?

Also, what are the dimensions of the master cylinder? Need to work out if this'll work with the stocker or if i'll need something new.

Cheers.

Chris,

The rears are detailed in the thread

http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=21852&rid=3701&S=bf92c570f8883be2f6d0ba4 3db781cf7&pl_view=&start=0#msg_180631

I went with Merc W140 rear discs and 300Zx rear calipers. Ed is doing something slightly different, but he has dropped off these forums due to work etc.

The std m/cyl is 15/16, but I have a Mk3 unit which is 1" which may be required due to the extra displacement of the 4 and 2 piston calipers compared to the std.

Is the Mk3 M/C a direct bolt up? How is it in terms of external dimensions, ie much bigger? I don't have much room to play with in that area.

Cheers bbaacchhyy!

It wouldn't hurt to have the larger MKIII master cylinder would it? More force with less effort... well, possibly the same force considering the upgrade in slave cylinder volume.

Looks like i've got some reading to do Smile

The M/C itself I think bolts onto the Mk2 booster, buit the booster is bigger in dia.

I'll take some measurements tonight. If I remember Rolling Eyes

You'd have to part with your 15" Soarer rims even if you went with the Z32 brake upgrade.

Depends what you want. I couldn't justify the extra expense of the 17" tyres. The rims are only a little more expensive. I'm putting the difference in tyre price towards something else.

Hmmm well I might be able to score a good price on 17" tyres, maybe, so I might lean that way... plus that'd be going up 2" in size, instead of a measly 1" Razz

and
http://img129.exs.cx/img129/7821/2004-11-24010.jpg

The overall length is about 30mm shorter for the Mk3 , but the booster dia is ~250mm, whereas the Mk2 is about 210mm. Tghe brake pipes are in different spots, but from the Yank forums, the boosters and m/cyl's are interchangeable.
