And what a fun day it was !

many 4ag and 4agze powered clubmand open wheelers and a few corollas even competing - and all of them chewed and spat out alot of the rotaries and mini's that were also competing Wink

there was a very nice little 75 ish coloolla hatch competing - had a 4agze in it - and it was fun to watch roar up the hill :0 had a peek at it when it was back in the pits and was surprised to see how at home a 4agze looks in that engine bay Smile

Quite a few clubmans with silvertops and quad throttle bodies too competing - they do sound very nice but still the duel weber 45 fed enginessounded better or the creamiest of the lot - a GTHO falcon XY GT - HOLy HELL did it roar Wink

PS beware of suspicious looking VW beetles around the hills - they were the surprise of the day - not only did the two competing LOOK STOCK - they were outhandling their porsche big brothers AND outrunning them - Beetles with BALLS! Scary !

How did the rotaries go??
I have been to the hill climbs in Grafton a couple of times.
Heaps of fun to watch.
Some really nice old skool corollas with big flared guards to cover the massive wheels.
SW20 MR2, Mini,AE92, Swifts, Civic's etc etc
Got some photos if anyone wants some.

Over near Adelaide Greg , A friend of mine has a lot of involvment in the classic adelaide rally + historical racing and stuff and invited me over for the weekend - was great day - Mount Comobine i think the place is called - purpose built hillclimb track ..

Also went to The mallalla Historical racing meet - and watched xy Falcon Gt's flog the absolute PANTS off everything - there is NOTHING and i mean NOTHING that compares with the sound of a 351 GT falcon topping 230+kmh along a straight Evil or Very Mad

Re the Hillclimbs - and rotaries - the rotors didnt impress much to be honest - only ine series 2 RX7 with a turbo was up there with the likes of the mini's and cortinas in that class..

The EVo 6's were very impressive - and hammered up the hill but the Skyline r33 GTR was the one i wanted to see do the hhill - Instead it got light over a crest - and went thru two armco's onto the return road - a very costly weekend for that person !

The VW beetles were the most impressive as per previous post - How in the hell they got them to handle so well and go so hard ( they FLOGGED the rotor powered cars and lower class mini's and escorts ) amazed me ..

In something like hillclimbs it seems power spread and power to ground is more important than over all revviness - ( hence why rotors didnt do good )

the 4agze's and 20 valves did very well - so any of you guys with worked sprinters that think they handle well should look into this sort of club event - IMHO a stripped 4agze/gte/20 valve Sprinter would hammer in this class of racing.
Lots of fun too for the whole family and the only thing that can go wrong is you off the track - not run into another car or get taken out by anoher driver

Giant tomato - Im going to make an effort to see when the MT leura climbs are on if your interested in saying gudday - Camperdowns only 25 mins drive from my house - might be a good idea for a cruise/racing meet if others are interested

speaking of hill climbs I was just checking the results of this years race to the sky (nice one for Steve Riley in his Twin Hyabusa powered homebuilt 4WD buggy - 3rd overall) and noticed this:

An AE86 got best open 2WD in last years race!!

That wasn't the Collingrove hillclimb was it, that was on the weekend? from Adelaide you would have come through the hills, through Birdwood and Mount Pleasant and all the other little towns up there.

last time they had a meet there it was a small car thing and I think the fastest time posted by the time I left was an orange rotary powered beetle Very Happy

The track that i went to was a Go-Kart track aswell so it wasn't that big. The top speed would of only been about 140km's max so Torque was a big issue. Lots of V8's.

Pity I didn't know you were going, I would have come out for a chat, it's only about 10 minutes away from where I live in Angaston.
I was going to go but I was too busy working on my car.

Yeah a few mates and i went to the Collingrove hillclimb on easter weekend, it was a 3 day event. Nice turn out of cars, from open wheelers, escorts, cortinas. A XYGT Falcon a mustang and a couple of other V8's that were suprising on the tight track but couldnt keep up with the smaller 4's though, looks and sounds quick but slow times. Heaps of minis and that and a couple of rollas.
