Hey guys,

Check out the GT4 at the link. It is due to hit the roads soon and has a power figure to match the looks. Something like 400hp.

that Gt4 looks like it belongs in a match box car collection - or something from hotwheels

Looks all show and no go to me - which is a shame cause ive only seen 3 or 4 genuine 400HP + Gt4's

The car is being built in Cairns North Queensland. I don't have a lot of details but it is a no budget build. And if they have the money to do it then why not. The build has not even started yet. But it is all out build with jun internals. I will updates you all once i find out what is happening later on.

I think he should keep with the flame theme and set the ugly thing alight and use the insurance money to buy a honda.

P.S. making 400hp+ at the engine , what would that = to kw at all 4 wheels approx?

Stu,
Based on my calculations 500Hp (fly) on a GT4 is about 290KW @ the wheels
If hes looking at 400Hp (fly) then its 220Kw @ wheels

bugger - there goes my 4wd award Smile

cant beat a st205 - Yet Evil or Very Mad

still curious to see what this things doing on the rollers - Going by that guide you referred me to - it should be in the vicinity of 110-130 kw at the wheels - most of the "stage one" modifications have been done to mine by the previous owner

Supposedly 265kw @ wheels is 468HP .. supposedly ...

Don't quote my figures. Each mechanic seems to have differing opinions.

135KW - i dont think ill be able to beat that but id like to be within the ballpark Smile

So far Ive had the exhaust done as per that guide ( 3inch system + dump) , its running higher than normal boost , higher than normal fuel pressure - and ill most likely work on a cold air induction setup + decent airfilter + the boost guage so i can see what actual boost im running at - just incase it is being wound too far up ( 1.0 bar is about maximum i believe in basic stock 185 motor trim ? )

Would LOVE to have my intercooler In by then but i dont see that happening in a hurry until after i get back from NZ ..

MUST have the group A bumperbar on though - cant have the current in need of respray one on there when i come to see you lot - The new toy hasta look as good as it can !

Plus ill finally be able to ee what step of the ladder im on - and where to go in 2004 to extract more of those Snorty ponies i know that hide in that 3sgte Smile

Ha steve - here - just take the trophy ! me and gary will battle it out for the sub 150KW at the wheels bracket Wink

BTW i still think the 205 will smoke mine Wink

Danny's GT4 is a darkhorse too when we see that on the rollers though somehow i think for now - Steves is pretty safe for unofficial balltearer Gt4 Award

All we need now is someone with a tercel or a hilux 4wd roll up and blow us all into the weeds Wink

Just ahd a look at jamies 1uz ta22 record - if the premier dyno puts out similar - Steves Gt4 would be on the mark with jamies ta22 - and possibly the top KW recorded.

What other cars is there that people know of that might be coming to dyno day that will come close to challenging the 240+kw bracket at the wheels ? Yogi's ta22 maybe ? Any of the supra lads ?

Looking forward to seeing some big figures - Sounds like this day will be tops Smile

Nah .. I don't want the trophy. We are simply doing this to see what we can get out of it. Don't forget I have a TRD Rally block and lots and lots and lots .. etc .. of work done to it.

It's currently doing 268kw @ 9700rpm. Revs like a mad cat. Taken it to just under 11,000rpm then closed my eyes and walked outta the dyno room Smile

We have put some milder cams back in it now and tuning it down to about 200kw and i'm going to start driving it around again. I miss my GT4 ....

No .. not comming down in July. We have just started selling ADSL and I am currently setting up some Hot Spots (wireless) around the Gold Coast so that's keeping me outta trouble.

Been running a CT26 at all the time but it's had some weird and wonderful wheels put in .. taken out .. thrown away .. ground down .. rewelded skirts .. reground skirts .. i'm not really sure what it was by the end. I have a CT26 T04e that I had on originally that we have put back on now.

Car is back in the garage here now. i'll be taking it to Brisbane for a run on Sunday .. Can't wait!!

Hi Steve, 268kw at the wheels would be knockin close to 500hp. Is that with NOS? Thats an awesome result and well deserved considering the dramas you went through. Is this possible on 540cc and a CT26 flowed due to the use of Nos? Thanks

Stuart, I have a spare support bar and complete water squirter setup from a Group A if your intrested.

Almost there Boyz The ST195 is on its way

Got a few more things to do but I have the time and money now that the house is sorted to get the beast all ready before dyno day 7 . The 205 motor is ready to be dropped in and the 185 is coming out this weekend. Waiting for flywheel and a few other goodies but all is going well. Also getting new piping done for the new set up so I will be very busy Smile but enjoying every bit of it.

Should be a big improvement on my 174kw @ 1 bar as I will be pushing 1.5 bar with the new motor as I aim for that magic 200 mark. Hope it all comes together for me.

Well, it's looks like none of you GT4 boys will have to worry bout coming in last... sounds like mine is gonna be the little baby of the group (don't think I'll even be able to have the air filter in by then, $$$ dramas Sad )
BUT it's all good... it'll be a great day anyway! Very Happy

Forgot about the topic of the thread.... all that money and no taste... dam shame to see a GT4 looking like that!

The 268kw was without NOS. We had rediculous cams in it (sounded a bit like a perofial port rotor but quieter) and a custom Turbo. Could have gone about 320-330kw with the NOS but I had no balls.

Car is back to about 200kw now and i'm going to drive it around and get it ready for Car shows again. Finished playing with the motor gods for now. Eventually they will bite back Smile

Edit: Forgot to mention we had 720 injectors in it as well. Now back to 540's.

Davgt4 - you might be safe too Smile

Went and got my front bar today , and CeLiCa keenly spotted that mine doersnt have the dump pipe afterall - When i thought it did and was informed it had .. oh well - im still coming - just means im gunna be Shy a few KW on the rollers. It does have the proper Cat back system though which is a plus - which means i only have to " replace " one part of the plumbing - not all . he also Showed me the way to do a nicer CAI setup - So ta for the info today Sepang - the advice has been noted - and im already on the ball to solve it

Now im working out in my head whether i should get the dump pipe done + work on the intake before fitting the front bar + getting it all looking " nice " ..

Decisions decisions - more horsies - or nicer looking ride .....

Now you know why i'm not going to push the Motor gods any further. Has nice profile cams in it now and reds about 8900rpm. Although I change about 7800rpm.

Might add another sticker so I can take it to 9000rpm.

Classique71, I finally got the boost controller working tonight. Its crazy now, it hits around 13psi in 1st and 2nd and around 16 psi in 3rd and 4th. The car was flying tonite. And I found a cool feature on the EBC that lets u press a button and it goes onto a high boost setting for a set period of time that it counts down on the screen and then goes back to the normal set boost. Now I can put a NOS sticker on my car and justify it to all the ricers Smile

Good luck with the front bar as well. I hope u can fix it and make it look all nice and new.

i dont mind those rims Smile thats similar to the ones id like to see in mine

that car does look neat though i dont like the drifter wing - much prefer the factory one ..

Made up my mind re the grey one for dyno day -

Talked to shannons last night re modifictons - they said to hang off till OCtober - and my premuim for " modified category " drops heaps - So i can do whatever i like to the car AFTER i reach 25yo

So for dyno day - youll see it pretty much as is - but hopefully with the Group A front bar - a Boost Guage - and if i can swing the extra cost - a half decent set of Speakers up front

2004 will bring on the dump pipe, frontmount , suspension , and decent wheels to start with!

PS - where can i get the front clear indicators ?

Yeah looks similar. Mine has a lip at the bottom though. Looks like he's modifed the stock front by taking out the center bar and getting a plastic welder to fix it up. looks good !

Should I mention that the Exhaust Shop has removed the Cat and not even replaced it with a highflow type. tisk tisk ..

GT4SOM was a black Gt4 based here on the Gold Coast. Rigoli's did most of the work on it and it moved along quite well. basically he had the same parts as mine but never had the internals done to the same extent as mine. Also it was a GenIII block i think.

The owner has since sold it and I heard that the new owner blew the motor up (not sure though).

What a waste ....

Also Stu .. if you buy some grill to fix to your frontend, get it powdercoated black before you put it on, not just painted. Stones chip away the paint pretty quickly.

Cool! Lotsa' GT4s! Looks like I'll be the 'benchmark' Grp A at the dyno day - completely stock - but still good for 110kw @ wheels (according to that Zoom article anyway) in theory. Smile
BTW, anyone know what the official engine factory output power is for the Grp A? Most sites on the net say anywhere between 173-176kw, but there are couple around that say 153kw (one from a Wheels mag article, & one from www.carsales.com.au).
Anyone got an official Toyota brochure/spec sheet?

HP wise in stock trim theres only about 10HP between the group a And the stock 185 according to toyota

Though KW wise - its about 20KW difference in favour of the group a

They also have shorter ratio gearboxes and a ECU that allows mapping up to 1.2 bar instead of 1 bar like yours and mine tony

Overall they are not that much different - but the biots around them make the Grp A Snappier off the mark and overall - the the 185 would have a higher topspeed due to a taller final gear ratio - I THINK ..

Still id love having the Grp A for rareness Smile

Actually, there are only 150 Carlos Sainz's in Australia.
Yes, all Australian delivered Group A's are Carlos Sainz editions. Although there are now some imported Group A's from Japan, which have a 'narrow body' (CeLiCa - is yours a narrow body import?)

nods to the jap Gropup A - narrower body - 14 inch wheels - a few more fancy gadgets - and the same air to air setup as the Oz spec st185

They weigh about 100kg lighter i think too - due to the st184 bodyshell being used instead of the widebody..

the widebody looks hornier anyway - to me the jap import group a looks like someones " cut and shut " a gt4 into a st184's body

Also CeLiCa's Celica -s an st184 coupe with a BIIIIIIG wing :)- and also the Carlos Sainz group A front bumper and bonnet - and group A water to air intercooled Motor in it - Its a FWD machine - not a Gt4 all wheel drive

Still goes like the clappers though Smile

Yep, my Celica is not a GT4. I imported a GRP A front cut from Japan and swapped all the parts (motor, ECU, bonnet, etc) onto my ST184. Its full of torque-steering goodness now.

my cars a jap import Gt4, with a narrow body and I love it.. no one thinks it's a gt4.. but it is Razz
The rear arches on a wide body are to hard to fill legally anyway..
