icon10.gif  another "what supra box do i have?" question..... Sun, 08 June 2003 12:06 Go to next message
i just bought what i thought was a w58 supra box. now when i got home i counted the ratio in 5th. 10 turns in gives 11.75 out. so would this indicate that the box i have is a w55?? and yes it definately does have an alloy casing and a STEEL sandwich plate.

is this an x-file??

any help is appreciated

just did some research on the net and found out that there is infact a w59.....

the ratios are

W55 -4.091 3.566 2.056 1.384 0.861 35kg
W57 -3.768 3.285 1.894 1.275 0.861 35kg
W58 -3.768 3.285 1.894 1.275 0.783 35kg
W59 - ? 3.954 2.142 1.275 0.850 35kg

the site says that the w59 was used in trucks etc.

has anyone heard about this box??

i know the ratios are not very good (the overdriven 5th was one of the reasons i wanted a 58)

10/11.75 ~ 0.85
10/11.61 ~ 0.861
10/12.75 ~ 0.78

Don' take offence, but did you count every turn? Might pay to double check. Use a texta to set some reference marks on the input and output shafts.
Also check first gear.

w59 can actully be a not bad box if used in combination with a 3.712 diff ratio (or there abouts)...

well, yeah, depends on the engine you want to gear it onto, but for a 7m at least, a w55 or w59 with a 3.712 came up quite nicely.

and yeah, w59 isnt that common, but theyre out there..

cheers

but i will recheck tomorrow (also first gear)

ED,
i am planning on using a g series hilux LSD diff as i have one lying around. its ratio is 4.3, am i right in thinking that that combo will be a pain in the poop chute??

not if youre planing on using it in a tractor Rolling Eyes

id be stting down with a calculator if i were you. look at your engines power band, then calculate your final drive ratios for different box/diff combinations.

see what suits the engine and your driving habits.
