Did anyone catch the article on today tonight about the reflective spray for numberplates? Is it going to be on 60 mins?

Clear lacquer spray, also hair-spray, these both work...so I'm told.

wouldnt it only work at night with the flash
cos during the day you should still be able to see it

i guess you could test it by taking photos at night with the flash on your camera

The flash goes off every time. At least it does in WA on all our speed cameras. It might not work every time, but it makes enough glare to obscure stuff.

A lot of the new cameras are digital and don't require a flash.
I have seen a number of items used on the British "police, camera, action" about the only thing that seemed to work well was a number plate cover that was heavily frosted, but htey just changed the photo over to negative (one button on their computer) and all was revealed.

Steal someone elses number plate and use that, put it back before sun up and bingo! No fines at your house.

no sprays work. nor does putting smokey persplex over the plate.

They had a thing about this on one of those Police Camera Action programs.. they did a series of tests. the only one that the camera didn't pick up straight away was the persplex covered one.

But once they went from teh photograph to the negative it stood out like bigbird at a costume party.

With todays technology i doubt very much that there would be something to make it unavoidable. Also if you get caught with something on then you get fined.

In these tests they also used hair spray and cling wrap. nothing worked.

i heard that, until recently it was only about $60 fine and no pionts for obscured no#plates so ppl just covered them up and took the fine every now and then instead of big speeding fines! i guess thats why they changed it
also if you ride a bike you screw the rego holder on tight to the plate and swing it up to cover half your plate ( it must have done that when i hit a bump officer!)

that looks good, expecially if you want to go for a 30 second flex on a main road risk free

unless a cops sees you and starts chasing you

but then you just leave it on and try and run away and they wont have your plate number

Re-capping all previous comments that there is no such product to "block" the number-plate from a camera flash, then can anybody explain why most cars at the Autosalons have their number plates glared out when u take photos of it?

Hmmm, id say that the glare is caused by the flash Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes ... BUT, the flash from your camera is brighter as you are closer to the car... Try taking a picture of a car that is further away and on the same angle as a speed camera... You should now be able to see the no plate okay...

If there was a way to difinatly ensure that your plates wouldnt get picked up at a red light/speeding camera then im sure 99% of the cars in Austrila would know this, then the cops would find out about it and find away to ruin everyones fun (they have a bad habbit of doin that). The only way is to take someone elses plates..it would be the only sure way i guess, either that or get some black paint andchange some numbers and letters on your plates, make sure its washable tho, so right after you can wash it off and nobody is any the wiser ( i saw that in a movie Cool ) But hey im open for ideas, if there is a sure way, im sure we will all like to know!!!

Or you could do what the Japanese do, have the top of the plate hinged, and hook up a central locking motor to it. press the button and up she goes Smile

Anyone see the movie The Transporter? The guy in that drove a BMW 7 series and had three number plates hooked up to a motor that he could alternate between...

eh eh eh... I dont know if any one else played with Mcano (read: the little bits of metal with holes that u screw together for fun)

Its amazing what a speeding ticket, an idea, and angle grinder and some little bits of metal can do... wooshka... flip up, flip down, wired to a rocket lauch type flick switch in the console...

points to remember, plate must dissapear and therefore the whole in which it dissapears must not be obvious, or B. make god dang sure u are a magician at hiding wires....

still, no matter wat u use, there is no garuntee esp hiden cameras of a switch located too far away to hit 2 secs before u see the speed trap...

solution, dont be a dick...
