Car contacts in Brisbane Fri, 05 July 2002 05:38 Go to next message
The hardest thing about moving interstate is finding good contacts again. It takes years through trial and error or should I say trial and rip off! Anyway if you guys would be kind enough to help me out with the following, I'm sure my final move to the sun and fun capital will be an easy one. I'm after the following north Brisbane contacts. Any tips and advise would be great.

1. Chrome/polish shop
2. Dirt bike shop
3. Nuts and bolts shop (still can't find a good one in NSW)
4. Good Autobarn or similar
5. Car stereo shop
6. Mechanic (this will be the hardest I think)
7. Auto electrician
8. Repco or similar
9. Plumber and house electrician
10. Huge hardware shop
11. RC gas car hobby shop

For gas car stuff, Hobbyrama on Stafford Road have a big range but cruise out to the track @ England Park Raceway at Strathwyn St Brendale (Northside too) & ask the guys in the pits. Raceday is every Second Sunday & also every second Friday night - mainly electrics & 1/10 street.

Greypower,
Thanks dude, I have checked out their web page (www.qrccra.org.au) and I think I'll join the club early next year. The new track surface looks unreal and I'm sure I'll meeet heaps of people that can help me out.

I thought this post would have been a little more popular? I could list all my old Tassy contacts but I don't think we have many Launceston Toymods fans here.

I'm sure I'll work it out when I arrive. Speaking of Brissy I'm coming up early next month to look at houses with my wife. I think the northern suburbs sound nice and the prices remind me of home.

The Celica car club of Brisbane should also prove to be a good source of information in relations to automotive contacts. Have a good weekend guys and girls. I would have liked to have gone to the Toymods dyno day but as usual I'm working while everyone is having fun and kicking back.

(all good things come to those who wait, so they say!)

Cheers

Justin

Hey Welcome to QLD!!!

3. Nuts and bolts shop - There is a good one at Lawnton called "NUTS AND BOLTS" they've always been able to help me out.

4. Good Autobarn or similar - Autobarn at Lawnton are incompetent and dont know what they're talking about. I don't recommend them at all.

5. Car stereo shop - Brisbane Car sound at Lawnton - they're always willing to help out and give you good deals and service ALSO JB hifi at Kedron are preety good with deals and service(even after you've brought the gear - unlike Autobarn)

8. Repco or similar - Repco at Lawnton are ok but a little expensive. Use supercheap auto at lawnton if you just need oil etc. and use repco for more specialised parts etc.

10. Huge hardware shop - You can't go past Bunnings at Carseldine.

Good Luck!

3. Nuts and bolts shop
Queensland Fasteners in Wacol - Excellent service and supply - they have just about everything ive needed so far

4. Good Autobarn or similar
Autobarn in Ipswich of all laces - Excellent Guys there - Very helpful for old school stuff too

5. Car stereo shop
Once again Autobarn of Ipswich - We got a excellent service again when my housemate bought his setup - they have a really good display too of the normal lines ( pioneer , sony , Kenwood , JBL etc etc )

6. Mechanic (this will be the hardest I think)
Ive been recommended to a place called Prestige Auto - they charge a bit - but from what ive heard from other CCCQ members their skills are top notch

Cool1,

If Brissy is anything like Tassy we are bound to run into each other, so we might as well make friends again now. We both have TA22 Celica's and I'm buying an AU Ford wagon next year to cart the dog around. We both have good taste in cars so I'm sure we'll get along just fine.
Thanks to everyone for the contacts so far, keep them rolling in.

lol - how ironic - im thinking of getting an AU ute or wagon too for the dog hauling duties - and celica gets the shed Smile

GT4 is looking a bit out of my range till im over 25 - but au wagons look very very nice with the au 17 inch tickford wheels .. best colours - silver , white , or red

Our big fluffy 40kg Samoyed named "Bundy" is banned from the Celica! He has already done enough damage in the old Datto, going to and from the beach. Man does the hair come out of this beast! He's only two years old and the chicks really dig him. My brother in-law uses him at Bondi beach to get phone numbers. My wife thinks this is bad but I think its funny. He's the duck guts in terms of dogs and I think he'll look cool in the back of our new AU wagon next year. No mods planned for the Ford but a nice set of bigs rims is on the cards later on. I dunno if I'll buy new or second hand wagon. I'm pretty fussy so I'll just have see what I can find thats in good condition. My father in-law drives a new AU sedan and I just love it. I'll see you very soon mate, we'll start our own gang of early model Celica's if the clubs are no good!

making love ? was he talking about his dog * lol *

anyway - you think you have problems with a 40 kg sammy dog - try a 90 - yes 90 KG saint bernard in the back of a celica Wink

i ban barely fit my sheppie in the celica and theres no hope of the saint weithout seats being removed

As for fords - buy the wagon 2nd hand unless you can get fleet discount .. EWven if they have 60 thousand plus on the clock - if the have been serviced - they still drive like new ..

On AU wagons - the 17 inch wheels are a must - i repeat a MUST ..

If i get one i plan on the wheels - some suspension mods and a nice exhaust .. just to give it that extra special fun factor to it for hauling the mutt Smile

The contacts list is coming along great guys. It's going to save me a lot of mucking around next year and save me money in the long run. I wish I had thought of it when I first moved to Sydney in 1999. I still can't find a good nut and bolt shop in my area.

Stuart, that dog of yours sound bloody massive! The thought of him in the back of a TA22 makes me lol. I agree with the idea of a second hand AU wagon with low km. I'd like to slam 18" rims under her with new springs if they'll fit. If I hit a curb I'd probably cry. I don't think I'd change any other parts as I'd rather waste the money on other hobbies. I'm not sure what Cool1 was talking about with the "love" thing either?

Have you guys seen those new JVC MP3 headunits? I think one of those babies would sound great in the wagon. Fitting roughly 10 CD's onto 1 CDR/CDRW in MP3 format sounds fantastic to me. While on the topic of music, I'm having trouble burning the latest music CD's. Have the music industry stopped us burning with introduction of new encoded prevention methods? I've tried using Easy CD Creator and CDR-WIN with no luck. I've burnt hundreds of music CD's in the past two years with my Richo 7600S but now its not working with the latest stuff? Maybe it's the brand of the banks discs I'm using? (TDK 80MIN BLUES) I'll have to go back to my old favourites (Kodak 74MIN GOLDS) and see what happens tonight. This is really strange as I've never had trouble with music. The odd PSX game has given me trouble but never music. The burner hasn't been used in ages and now its spitting out coasters. I'm gunna have words with it tonight. Theres nothing I hate more, than kit that doesn't fucking work properly. It will get one warning and then off to ebay she'll go. Yep replacement without any questions asked.

Cheers boys

Justin

I've been looking at the JVC MP3 player too. One of my best friends brought it and it is really good!!!!! Just need the $$$$'s now!!!
I have that trouble with cd's sometimes too, but it's usually because the cd's are cheap or my burner is playing up. I don't think that copyright stuff is out yet, and if it is it's not working real well!

Come on guys keep those contacts rolling in, your were all doing so well. I'll be in Brissy tomorrow night. I'm spending the weekend up there with my wife. We plan on checking out a few of northern suburbs and looking at houses. Its all rather exciting, not long to go now. If I never have to return to Sydney in my life I'll be a happy man!

Go the northside!!!!!
The further south you go the weirder the people get Razz Razz Razz

I agree with the never returning to Sydney part.
Next time I go down south it will be all the way AROUND sydney. I don't care how much longer it takes me!!!! Laughing

Moss St, Slacks Creek and everything surrounding it is the king of car shops. It's southside though. Biggest Autobarn in Qld is there.

Car Stereo: Olbis Communications in Rocklea. I don't go anywhere near Brisbane Car Sound or Northfield. I won't list reasons (and there are quite a few!) here.

Tuning etc: Adaptatune Slacks Creek

Can't think of much else because I tend to do it all myself these days.

Olbis Communications??? You have to to be kidding? They are the most expensive place in Brisbane if not Queensland!
They are actually one of my dealers and they sell nothing because they are so expensive! And the quality of their work blows goats! My 2 year old kid could do better! And I dont have kids!

Thanks guys I'm very happy with the contacts list. My weekend in Brissy went very well. I was pretty much lost the whole time, but it reminded me of little old Tassy in many ways. I didn't want to get back on plane and return to Sydney. I've already started packing my shit and the Celica is ready for its first run in 3 years! The trailer has been repaired and even the dog has his bone collection packed ready for the trip north. I was a little concerned the Narangba area was going to be too far out of town, but compared to Sydney its ok. I'll be staying in Deception Bay for the first 3-4 months and I plan on joing the Celica car club straight away. Most of my shit will go into storage until I buy my first home early next year. I'll grab all your email adresses before I leave and we'll catch up for beer soon if we run into each other. (free piss for all those early model TA22 Celica owners with good paint jobs!)

Ha Ha

Cool1,

I don't know what happened to you.. I have had not had bad experience with them. Granted, I only ever had 1 install done by them and it was quite a few years ago now, but I can't imagine they've changed that much. I use only them for repairs, including my incredibly expensive HCCA 2100 amp. Anyone can have a bad experience though - I can tell you all sorts of stuff about most large reputable shops that "do no wrong" as far as the car mags are concerned.

You must have some big balls sending them stuff to repair!
The techs they have working there have very very poor workmanship!
As I said, they are one of our dealers! When the end customer takes one of our radios back to them for repair they always end up back in our workshop for repair!
And as I said, they are one of the most expensive automotive outlets!
They have dont nothing wrong by me! I have never bought anything from them and I have never had anything repaired by them! And I never will!

Hey guys no one in Sydney can help me yet, but I need a battery tray for my TA22 Celica. Mines rusty so I'm gunna chuck it out. If anyone up there can help me out I can organise a money order/direct deposit to cover the cost of the part and postage. I think the battery tray came with some sort of black plastic coating on them. I need one with no rust suitable for painting black. Let me know how you go.
