Hi guys, I've just joined up and wondering if anyone can give me a bit of info. I'm considering a 1988 FXGT Import which would be about $5,000 (then I have to do all the usual import stuff to get registered).
I've never owned a toyota and don't know too much about the engines etc, but can someone fill me in on what engine this would have and performance etc. Any info would be much appreciated

Performance would be 100kw good sub 9 seconds 0-100kms factory
different insignia and interior over the local deliver sx corolla

cheers for the info.
If i could get it on the road for about $6.5 - $7k would it be a good buy? How easy is it to extract more power from the standard engine?

for that you can get a sx so its about right for the price.
CAI, exhaust, port / polish and cams will give you a noticeable difference.

I presume it would basically be a two-door version of our ae92 SX corolla hatch. Make sure its got a 4A-GE engine in it - otherwise it will be slow.
typical traits for this model of car are:
reliable
economical
reasonably quick (for a 1.6 N/A)
If you can land it at the price you quote then you shouldn't have too many hassles with import depreciation either. Locally delivered models go for about that (maybe a little less).
Most parts should be interchangeable with the locally delivered ae92 (though I note that the bonet looks like a nova bonnet
take it easy

Neat looking 2 door, if its 15 years old (ie Jul 88), then it does not need compliance plates, should be a good cheap import. Good luck buddy, regards Chuck.
