Spring-resetting

Hi all,
I have height adjustable coil-overs on my car with the height set to the lowest possible.
It is still just a tad too high for my liking and i'd want it to go down 1 inch.
I got advised and quoted for a spring resetting.
What does this actually involve? any info would be appreciated.

They take your springs to a springworks. They are put in a kiln and their height is reduced....basically they just squash them down a bit. You are left with a spring that has the same number of coils as before (so unaltered spring rate) but at a lower uninstalled height.

yes, I'm actually in Sydney.
I went to K-mac springs and they said they can reset the front ones by 3/4 inch maximum. I've changed my rear ones to a lower item and now my car behaves like a dog because the front feels higher!
argh!
K-mac said about $90 for reset, and $120 approx for labour.
But i'm not too sure about the results, worth a try i guess

You can also "reset" them with an angle grinder

Bump stops can be cut as well.
Haha, yes cutting springs and bump stops is dodgey.

That price is a tad excessive. For that price you could have new springs made.
If you take your springs to a springworks, they should be able to do it for $20-30. Because they are coil overs, you can just crush them by the amount you want to lower your car (plus a bit more for some adjustability), providing it is possible with your current springs. Resetting them may result in premature coil bind depending on the construction of your spring.
Cutting springs and bumpstops is moronic.

I was joking about cutting springs and bump stops. Granted, bumps stops reduced by 50% or less aren't too crazy. Sometimes it even increases the stability of the car if the springs are too low.

Very true, cutting a section off the bump stop does make the car noticebly handle better at the rear provided that it is lowered.
But yes cutting springs is moronic and fatal in road situations!
gianttomato: when you say 'springworks', is that a particular place for this specification? or is it some kind of machine?

A springworks is a factory where springs are made. If you look in the Yellow Pages, you will see that some of them do 'direct to public' automotive springs. Cut out the middle man.

A lil exageration never hurt anyone! I ain't aiming for the Wog-Chariot style, but just need the car to look right. At the moment the coils are set to the lowest and it is still about 3 inches off the ground which i can feel is giving me sloppy turning response due to the rear being slightly lower.
