ra65 ('84) gearbox and rt142 (12/85) Thu, 31 July 2003 00:39 Go to next message
I've got a corona with irs built in dec of '85 with 22R-E engine and have found a wreckers selling a gearbox from a RA65 which was built in '84.

Will the RA65 gearbox fit onto my engine??

From what I've read, my car should be the short block with digital EFI... (will check one day)

Does the '84 ra65 have the older analog efi 22r-e if so is there a difference between the 2 engines, gearbox wise?

Best way to know for sure is to check the firewalls of both cars and compare the transmissions.

W55, W57, and W58 are interchangable.

You should be right, but check anyway.

If there is no transmission code, that generally means you have a Borg Warner box. You can swap in a Celica box, but you'll need a tailshaft to match and probably other annoying little things (eg clutch line, crossmember etc).

So even tho my corona has a 22r-e its got a different gearbox to a ra65 celica, great.
My IRS diff is out of a ra65 celica.

argh my gearbox is melting down, its got a 'grrrrrrrr' grinding sound now while accelerating in 2nd gear, it only used to happen while decelerating in 1, 2, 3, 4

So... if i get this gearbox i'll probably need to get the tail shaft as well?

Whats a clutch line? Confused
