Premium Fuel and Timing

Hey all
I've currently got a ST184 1990 Celica and i'm always using premium unleaded or vortex or whatever the store calls it (the 98+ octane stuff). I was wondering what the factory timing is for my car, and what i could up it to safely if i'm always using this fuel because my friend says he can change timing and has all the timing lights etc.

Hmm, well I always fill up at BP, although i have been to caltex before. Is the performance increase gained by changing timing even noticable? Will it cause any long term damage to my engine?
