I was just wondering if anyone has any wet weather stories. We all know wet weather isn't the best for fast times but it sure can be great fun/ scary.
Last night I was driving home from Byron on a road I know REALLY well and could not keep the car on the road!! 1st rain in months and virtually bald tyres do not mix. On corners that I take at 100 in the dry I was taking at 45 last night fully crossed up. It was fun on the 1st few but it just got scary after a while. This continued (even going slower and slower without much luck) untill I was almost home when in the main street I completely lost it and done 2 x 360 degree turns in a big cloud of smoke. It was the single most scary trip of my life. 45 mins of scaredom. Lucky there wasn't anyone on the road. Going to have to get some new tyres ASAP!!

my worst moment was in my girlfriends car "the fat colt" and she was driving came into a wet corner car started to understeer and she kept turning the wheel in then car hit grip again and nearly wiped out the side of the car i was on into a side barrier, told her to stop get out and let me drive, 
another time with me driving i gave it some going around a corner and got the back hanging out but it was one of those roads where one side is one type of tar and the other side is different so as the back drifted across it hit the grippy stuff i then over corrected and nearly took out a parked excel

after a week of having my celica it rained and i thought great lets go out for a bit of sideways action cos it looks like a piece of piss. this is with realy shitty tyres on the back that would have just passed road worthyness. anyway came around this round about in my estete and geve it some hung the back out and panicked and over corrected and fishtailed it up the road for a bit untill i mounted the meadian strip and hit a tree in the middle. it is was a wattle sapling and was about 5 inches thick and reasonably tall and i just snaped it in half. the whole car was covered in branches and leaves and bits of flower and i scared the bejusus out of myself went home and hosed the car off and sat inside for the rest of the day.

i used to get real tail happy in my old 86 corona (not the most powerful thing on the road) but now i have a front drive camry so things on the outside of corners stay in front of me and not to the side of me as i understeer 
but i think its a good acheivement to get a third gear wheel spin!
1st...spin wheels
2nd...more spinning..
3rd...shit ive only just crossed the intersection and theyre still spinning, lets try for:
4th...nup, not enough power... wheels get some grip and car stalls

Running late for my first day at work when it was raining very hard (most rainfull recored in one day) and i was pushing it into a corner to catch the orange light. Anyway get through the orange light and feed it through corner (was looking for the drift). The car get out i look over see a cop on a motorbike watching me loose all consentration as i am going from one type of tarmac to another (grippy). Car grips bounces back to the other side of the road and this is repeated about 4 times until i get it straighted up. Best thing about it was cop was caught in traffic and i had enough time to get my car into the work car park before he could find me  .

Yep, after finally raining for the first time in months up here, today the roads were extremely slick. Much much much more than usual for wet roads.
It was so easy to do wheelspin and aquaplane today it wasn't funny.
There was one set of lights I was in a hurry to leave from and I just sat there spinning and sliding side to side, it was fun, but then I decided I didn't want to meet any other cars next to me, so I took it easier, or so I thought.
Next lights, yep, lots of sliding off the line without trying.
Geezus I thought. So the next one I had to let it idle from the line for a bit before accelerating.
Once I got to tafe (I did a record run of 25mins from petrie to ithaca, I was late. ), I checked the tyres, yep, plenty and plenty of tread on them. But I didn't understeer though. I still believe in my car for it's superior handling in that department.
Way home up the freeway was much better. The roads were much more grippy the whole way.
Gee I've had a fun week so far. I wonder what tomorrow will bring......

gotta love rear wheel drive and wet roads. all i need to finish the fairy tale off is a LSD.
today it rained and made the roads nice and greasy. that meant fun on the way to work ( not to much cos it was peak hout) fun at lunch time and fun on the way home.
few corners i had a heap of opposite lock held in and held the boot in at the same time. suprised i didnt spin out a few times today
gotta love the new goodyear F1's i got on the front today.

oh the stories
went through an intersection (copeland and beecroft roads) at 80km/hr in a holden acclaim, sideways, through a red light (oops) that was I was a p-plater, more foolish and less skilled
currently, my celica has BALD front tyres, so I slide everywhere weithout even trying
plus 7.5" at all four corners in a car weighing just over 1100kg makes for loads of aquaplaning
plus I got 4ths for the first time ever in my car ... I was so very happy

well if you want a wet weather story, how about when i wrote off my 1st car.....
was an 86 astra, i was on pizza delivery, fell asleep behind the wheel for a second or so... wake up as i enter a corner that i am going way too fast for on the wrong side of the road, and a couple seconds later, after getting the car sideways, clipping a tree, plowing through one fence, jumping another, and landing in someones front yard, i am VERY AWAKE..
should have seen the peoples faces when i told them i just landed in their front yard

Just tonight I saw a new monaro that went head on into a pole on the wrong side of the road. Was at the intersection of Stanmore Rd and Enmore road in greasy conditions, i'm guessing he went a bit too hard and lost his grip. lucky no one was hurt.

just a little "add-on" to the thread... lost is last night trying to drift on carlingford road.
came around the corner onto midson road, saw there was noone in sight and no parked cars, and gave it a little.
the back swung out... then swung out more down the sloped hill... and even though I locked the steering wheel, that back just kept coming around... leaving me at a standstill 90 degrees to the curb on the wrong side of the road.
to be expected really, with my tires as bald as they are

This happened when i was younger and more foolisher.
Driving along road to a mates place when i decided to do a hang brake stop in the rain at 60kmph. Well i 540 along and across the road into the gutter buckling both wheels on mthe passenger side. Very foolish and i learnt ALOT from that experience.
btw my mate was outside when it happen and saw it all. He was Very impressed. He believed that i meant to do it!!!!

Yeah I had a scare in Malaysia driving on the highway in the rain, I was in the middle lane and a slow moving car decided to change into my lane just ahead, well I tried to change lanes but ended up aquaplaning, was sure I was going to hit the car in front but ended up sliding past it by a few milimeters... scary stuff...

My mate just bought this Ford Laser...the bubble ones. Anyway, we were bored so we got those trays from maccas, put em under the rear tired and we were sliding around with the handbrake up. Lots of fun.
Then it was wet and we needed something that lasted longer...so we found these bins and took the lids and slid all over the place.
I guess it's an alternative if u only got FWD.
We also tried bread trays, but they gripped more. Maybe one day we'll film it.

Just doing my usual sideways thing....and ive been swinging the ass out more and more lately trying to find the limits of the car etc.....and yeah found them

Came around the corner out of my street just after the first rain in a while, mate was in front in a Dato 1600, he got a bit out of shape his car has had a fair bit of work done to the suspension so i backed it off heaps. I must of hit a patch of grease or something because the back end began to come around this didnt bother me because i was going fairly slow so i corrected eased off and accelerated again which bought it back the other way which i had intended to do. Thas went on a couple more times and then it did a 180 and i was now doing the speed limit of 60 going backwards and heading for the gutter, not a real lot i could do except try and hold the wheel straight. Hit the gutter bounced the car about a foot and a half into the air and landed between a light post and a tree. No panel damage done bent both wheels on the drivers side under and various other bits and pieces.
Had a nother one where we came around a hair pin corner doing the speed limit and there was diesel on the road from a truck accident the week before went backwards over a 2 and a half meter cliff doing a summersault and landing on the wheels and rolling 10-15 times down a hill.

well, where do i begin
all this was done in my VK EFI 202 with an auto and no lsd or locker
there is a roundabout near the hyperdome that had been hit with diesel or oil at some stage cause at 2000rpm and a little blip on the throttle u can have it near on full-lock.
i have had it lock to lock for over 300m up the road coming off that roundabout while going thru the gears manually up to 4200rpm in 3rd {u hit 200k at 5000rpm}, i backed off cause of a RAV4 coming the other way.
i beat a 13 second R32 GTS in the rain once from a set of lights, i had it about 1/4 turn right thru to 80k and he was just fishtailing and hitting the limiter, i have video of it i just need to get it onto a computer.{can anyone help}
in my old RT104 auto 18RC, just 2 days before i sold it i thought f%*k it, lets go drifting that same roundabout, 720 degree turn and didn't let off just held in and kept going, unfortunately this RT104 cant drift for shit

well i have a wet weather story its not in a toyota but its still good, It was in my brothers gemini i was supposed to pic him up in it when he went clubin one night the car wouldnt start when i put petrol in it at the servo so he ended up comin there 2hrs later very drunk, me & one of his friends pushed it to bump start it, he was steering so we got it goin & both jump in the back (there was crp in the front) the servo is on a long flat road so he was hammerin down there turned right in to a corner at like 70kays it hung so his mates saying GO IT GO IT (go faster) so he kept his foot down valve bouncin the thing slams fourth (at this point were going about a 110) the road leads to a round about with a nice big tree in the middle with a wall around it with no break what so ever he tries to go strait through (at this point being the only strait one im going Oiiiii stop)
we bounced off the round about kerb the car goes well out of shape plows on to some grass hangs out to the left shoots accros the road on to some guys front lawn hangs to the right gets a bit of traction on the driveway then BANG - BANG the front smashed in to a tree as the car was sideways the side slapped in to a wall right on the corner of it, the rim luckily took the brunt of the wall it crushed the side of the car in just about popped the dif out the side he instantly said RUN we all tried to open the doors - no go the hole car was buckled we crawled out of the smashed windows the guy whose house we nearly hit was standing there he said dont bother we were all in a daze from the imapct i smashed my face on the head rest and bust my nose the driver my brother had a lump the size of an orange on his head where he hit the A pillar and his mate had a nasty bruse on his leg where the car crushed in at the side.
We were very lucky, none of use were wearing seatbelts if the rim hadnt hit the wall and it hit say the middle of the back door it wouldve ripped tha car in half.
We were all of 2 minutes away from my house.
He didnt get done for dd when the cops rocked up he was sobber.
Let that be a lesson to you NEVER try to take a round about doing a 100kmh in a gemi.

another story - not wet weather... but friends girlfriend who drives a 200 sx...
heart rate went up to 200 bpm.... VERY scary coming home with her riding in the back seat DURING peak hour..
man.. i was almost crying i was so scared!!

I've been in a car with a girl like that.
I feel safer in my car doing 160 at 5pm on epping road than I did in the car with her doing 65 in a 60 zone. I swear she nearly killed about 10 people (the 4 of us in the car included!)

I read in the news paper in the spotted section (west australian)
a women was seen driving down the freeway with a bowl of cerial in one hand a spoon in the other steering with her knees i hope she was.
I cracked up when i read it, u can just imagine a women doing it.
If i saw her i wouldve got in front slammed on the breaks just to see the look on her corn flake covered face.

OK, I had broken my second T-series axle in my 76 RA29, so I drove my 71 Ford Capri(built in Koln,W. Deutschland) to work. As a pizza delivery store manager, during a particularly violent night of thunderstorms, and power outages, we had good business.
Very Good Business...
Delivery drivers were slow and complaining, we were falling behind, averaging an hour from call to delivery. I was manager, yet famous for my delivery time vs. distance driven. I blazed through medium rain to a brand new yuppie house, got a ten dollar tip, and set course for the pizza store.
I turned onto a 5 lane bypass with no traffic and opened her up. It had the little 2000 sohc with the 32/36 weber(est 120hp, and 2200lbs.). As opposed to the five link/coil spring axle of the celica, the capri sported a leaf springed axle with no panhard rod. Upon entry into 3rd gear, the rear end decided to follow it's moment of inertia vector(rather than the front tires). This resulted in about a dozen or more, 360 degree spins. off the road into grass, mud all over the glass, engine stalls, and long SLIDE, to an eventual stop. Engine is stopped, lights on, wipers are struggling to scrape mud off the glass, and heater begins to blow colder. I roll my window down to fix my location, and have a fire hydrant sitting six inches off my door. I'm pointed towards the road, looking downhill, and the rain is helping clear the mud from the glass. I restart the engine and drive slowly back to the store.
My mistake: Not having the Celica fixed.

Ive had two incidents of late - as im still learning to drive a car with near on double the horsepower of my last - and a haft tonne more weight !
Both involved boost coming on at inoppertune times in the rain - once sending me into a sideways crabwalk at lights - while it just sits and spins up all 4's - the other - turning out from a paralell parking sppot - giving it a little bit to get into traffic and ending up going sideways down the road .. not fun - but i am learning quickly that wet weather - high boost - and slippery after drought roads dont mix well !

I haven't had any really bad incidents in wet weather. I know my car has bald tyres so I always take it very slowly when it's wet. I thing the closest I came was I was driving my dad's 83 pulsar (front wheel drive) it had just started to drissle and the wires are starting to show through on the front tyres. went to turn a corner while going down hill and the car just didn't turn. I was heading towards the edge of the embankment and remembered to take my foot off the brake. I was on full lock so the car ended up going back onto the left side of the road so it was all good. Lucky there were no cars.

Ive got a couple of little stories to tell.
I was in my mates old SAAB 900i (FWD truck), it was raining and he was driving too fast as usual. We got to a really sharp corner and as we came around it the back end started to slip out, my mate had no idea what to do, panicked and hit the brakes. We ended up with my side of the car sliding towards a kingswood coming the other way. fortunatly the kingy had time to slow down because we ended up stopped sidways across both lanes. My mate started up his car and pulled of onto the side of the road, he sat there shaking while I pissed myself laughing.
on another occasion I was driving up to where my brother works as a tyre fitter with a couple of second handies in the boot and copletely bald tyres on the back of my RA60. it was raining for the first time in a while and I was first at a set of traffic lights on a steepish hill. when the lights turned green I slowly took off but when my rear wheels got to the stop line the started spinning and my car stopped moving, for a second I was accually bogged in the middle of a bitumen road, fortunatly on the third attempt I got over the stopline and moving again.

I was driving home one night it was raining pretty hard and I was driving down a little two lane road that i new very well. So i knew about the 90 degree turn up ahead so i started slowing down. It is a 15 mph turn so i took it at 15 but that was too fast. I get to it and am still on the brakes a little and hit a slick spot and the back end starts sliding out I wasn't concerned I just gave it some gas. It kept going I had the wheel cut all the way and the back end was off the road and i kept on it trying to steer out of it. I heard a loud bang and then I got traction and I was going again. I pulled off the road and looked at my car it had a small scrape on the back bumper look back and see the sign post almost doubled over. oops!!!! 
I laughed all the way home.

I had my first slide out on the road on my postie today !!!....it was pissing down by the way
turning into harvey norman driveway....thought id swing the ass out.... my instincts said "dont do it....you're going to fast....itll slide out"
for some reason i ignored this.....and what happened ?....i slide out.....full 180.....somehow managed not to stack it but DID scrape a little from too much lean and got the bike upright and went inside harvey norman carpark to be greeted by ppl staring at me.....
check the bike out for damage....none....the foot peg scraped that was it...
moral of the story .... trust your instincts

mmmmmm, eagle on the hill, parents 1994 manual 2.2 camry wagon, trying some lift off over steer, on the way up my mate says, "i bet those gaurd rails dont do shit".... on the way down i began pissing down like none other, i was an idiot for even trying, big P-plater head, plus i did know the road well, after having a stop watch in the car cos my dad wanted to time my runs down the hill. but i was holding some lift offs and 4 wheel slides ( the adrenilen was pumping) and held a few, i started to get very confident, 35 km/hr right hander, 3rd gear and floored it, my mate halfway through the corner say fuck you are going 85 (go the camry, although it was under steering like a bitch), then i said in a space ship guy voice we have lift off, the rear went out like a bitch and im fighting for control all crossed up and with my whells pointing toward the gaurd rail we got traction and perch and went straight into the rail, luckinly i had been on the brakes and the damage was minimal, but that sure go me pumped, even though it was my parents car, they didnt even seem too angry , a lesson learned, only thrash the shit out of your parents car in the dry especially when it only has 14" rims and drums on the back
