OKies where do I start...

At the moment I'm running:
- Alpine 60x4W CD deck...
- Alpine MRV-1507 Sub Amplifier
- Alpine MRV-T407 Speaker Amplifier
- Alpine Type R 12" Subs x 2
- Pioneer 6x9's
- Pioneer 4" splits

Coming soon:
- Alpine 150x4W speaker amp
- Soundstream SST6.5 Splits
- Alpine SPR-175A Component speakers with tweeters
- New sub box, smaller dimensions and different firing angle for the subs cause I blew the last box apart Shocked Shocked Shocked ...

The system was never tuned properly but did around 140dB on a test at a mates place... I was happy with that but the ppl that were in the back that could'nt breathe weren't Razz Razz Razz ...

I have never run in a sound off either cause I never wanted any randoms at car shows to know what was in it...

You're going to have a nice setup when it's all installed. I'll have to check it out at a future CCG meeting. Do BDL, Audiotech, JB Hifi or anyone else in Canberra run sound-offs?

I really am hoping to get some decent SPL out of it. I cant set it all up properly as I have a 19month old daughter so her stroler also uses my boot space. I will basically have 1 12" sub on each side of the boot facing inwards and 1 sub just behind the seat facing the back of the car.

heres just a few points for new peeps out there

you cant beat a pioneer head unit for quality, unless u go something like nakamichi. this i can guarentee you

dont run 6x9's and a sub, its pointless and inhibits good sound
they tend to work against each other
if you want more low-mid sound, get a couple of 8's

large spl = shit sound, full stop
if you want something that is clear to listen to and wont give you a headache, get 2 12's, dont get a 15. 15's are purely for large spl readings, not everyday listening
if you want real loud spl, get 2 kicker 15" square subs, shit to listen to, but laaaaarge spl

decent splits and 6x9's always need an amp to run... always, no matter what deck you have

hmmm, thats about it for now

Pioneer 4x45w CD Tuner (from a couple of years back)
Precision Power (PPI) A300.3 amplifier
Pioneer 12" 600w sub in box
6.5" Pioneer 2-way Compression Horn drivers

Thats the current system in the Celica, simple and very effective.

The system in the XX is going to be a little more whacked, with some higher quality gear and a good alarm Smile

Thanks for the tips cressida supra:

"dont run 6x9's and a sub, its pointless and inhibits good sound
they tend to work against each other"

So if I end up getting a sub should I just sell my 6x9's and fabricate a new parcel shelf?.

"decent splits and 6x9's always need an amp to run... always, no matter what deck you have"

I've always thought amps were designed to run subs, what sort of amp would you suggest for my system?.

if u already have 6x9's keep them, theres no point selling then now, i mainly said that for ppl who havent got rears yet.

as for amp wise, the megavox's shouldnt need a huge one, but spend the extra on a bigger amp if u plan to upgrade the speakers at any stage.
an amp 50x4 rms should be perfect for almost all splits or 6x9's

if u want 1 amp to run the lot, try and get a 5 channel signat rom 5. they cost a little over 800, but worth it in the long run

if your budget remains small, then just get a small 2 channel for the sub, 60x2 rms minimum, but it really depends on what sub u get.

the main point to remember is dont spend money now just to get sound, coz its money you'll throw away in the long run.
save up for a few more weeks/months and get something that is better, and will last u longer

I'm in the process of organising my stereo gear for my sprinter, and by organising i mean finding in my garage Smile

so far the list is
Eclipse head unit (can't remember which one but it cost 1000 about a year ago) bought it cause it has aux in and is a damn nice head unit.
Alpine 1502 Amp (2 channel bridged for sub)
Alpine 303? amp (4 channel bridged for splits)
Focal 6.5" Splits in the front
Eclipse 6x9's or 6" in the rear
Toshiba laptop p3 1ghz, 20gb hdd, dvd player (farked screen)
Generic 6.5" LCD display (for laptop)
Alpine 10" zr sub

Will be removing the rear seats to make enclosures for the sub, amp and laptop. Will be a bitch to get in, but even more of a bitch to get out.

Should be interesting, 15gb of mp3's 5gb of various vids.

but still, i reckon advertising to the whole world (anyone can read the forum) what you have in your car is a bad idea,

turn your stereos off abit before you park too so people cant hear that you have subs or whatever.

as we all know there are lots of theives. i have a present for anyone trying to seal my shit too, but as they say, prevention is better than cure.

at the least i might save myself a broken window or fucked locks.

my stereo is for me to enjoy anyway, not to impress other people, so i dont mind keeping it to myself.

I don't see the point in getting an mp3 head unit when you can get one of these bad boys http://www.nomadworld.com/products/Jukebox_Zen/ 60GB of mp3's, hell yes, thats what I'm getting. Pity they don't sell them here but then again the 20GB one is over 700 here so actually I don't care Razz Only works out to around 600 AUD for the 60GB one if you import it. They've released a smaller one as well http://www.nomadworld.com/products/jukebox_zen_nx/ but only up to 30GB, and imo it doesn't look quite as nice Smile

ihave been thinking exactly the same, fabricate some sort of cradle and get a wireless remote for one of them or an i-pod and put it straight onto the amp

I reckon they are heaps better then an iPod. When the normal Zen, they are the standard laptop HDD size, so you can buy one that fits and voila! up to 80GB at the moment, with bigger ones to come.

edit: Also, unless there is some kind of 3rd party one, there is no IR remote for them. There is a wired remote but from all reports it blows the big one. Lets hope Creative make a better one or there are some other options out there. If you're in a car, what do you really need a remote for anyway? I never saw the point Razz one more thing to lose Smile

While were on the subject I have the following in my AE82 Seca.
2X 15inch Fusion Powerplant Subs in a massive ported box
2X Schneider Isometric 800 watt amps
6X9's in boot
6 1/2 Coaxials in front stage
Brand new top of the line Kenwood deck up front
With all my gear I have been in a couple of sound offs & my highest score to date is 148.6 dB.

yeh, you can get the zen's cheaper if you look around and buy online.

one thing tho which is swaying me to i-pod at the moment is that i've found a proper mounting cradle that just plugs into a ciggy lighter and has the stereo output jacks on the side to run to the amp and all, exactly what i was gonna try to make. so i would just discretely mount another ciggy lighter under the dash and have the cradle always in there

yeah true, but I think the sheer size(storage that is) of the Zen makes me want one more then an iPod. Plus the fact they are cheaper and according to reports put out better sound. Creative are after the sound card leaders, so the sound that comes out of their stuff rocks Smile
