ok i was going for a speed run in my grandparents cressida (it recently got a new engine got to stretch its legs)
I was very disapointed at the top speed i only got too 150km/h @ 5,000rpm in D (its a 3speed i assume L - 2 - D)
That was without overdrive on.. i clicked it on and the revs went down too 3,500rpm
So what im wondering is Overdrive on these vechicles like a 4th gear

Overdrive IS 4th gear, ie it is a 4 speed box and the 4th ratio is overdriven.

Yep overdrive is 4th gear, simple as that!
Btw if it only got to 150 thats a bit of a worry!
With 7 cracked rings and a stuffed head mine still got to 165 (and that was where I ran out of room!)!

That would be right 3rd is 1:1 4th is .71 thus 5000 * .7 = 3500
And considering the engine is probably still tight i would not be too worryed.. may not of had the injectors cleaned, often overlooked on an engine rebuild!

i know this is mazda626's article but i was wondering if i could also ask a auto question.
would an auto car accelerate quicker on 3rd or 4th gear?
because i cant really tell i have a hi-flow cat 2&1/4 inch all the way to a cannon i think comes out to 3 inch.
i've tried overdrive on and off accelerations but 4th gear seems to be a more power acceleration is this correct ?

Slowly in both, but marginally quicker in third. With the 3" cannon, I suspect that with the 30-40 extra kilowatts, you won't notice the difference.

150km/h in 3rd gear
Now i know its a actual 4th gear ill take it for another run soon..
Whole engine was rebuilt everything done too it new injectors etc...
What speed should i be looking at roughly ? 190 ? maybe even the 200 mark ? or would the ECU shit itself ? do they have a fuel cut of point or speed limiter ?

If it Aussie delivered, then there will be no speed limiter. It is unlikely you will get anything extra out of overdrive.....it is very tall (0.71).
Let the engine run in before thrashing it like this otherwise it will spin another big end.... Given that it's your grandparent's car, I'd imagine that would be at least 5000 km. If it's your grandparent's car, should you really be abusing it like this at all?

Engine has 890km on it since rebuild..
Not really abusing it just streaching the legs
They tend to stick on 75-80km/h which would strain the engine..
I do take it easy with it dont want them to spend alot of money again to get it rebuilt.

Nah put a 6MGE head on it. Make it a 3 litre.......
Mazdadude, were you doing this to your grandparents car when it spun a bearing? Don't you think it's the height of irresponsiblity to thrash your grandparents' unrun in motor? Do you have a conscience? Have you read the Toyota manual regarding their run in process? It clearly stipulates NOT exceeding 100 kph for the first 1500 km.
Like I said before, leave the Toyota 6 cylinders alone. In fact, leave all cars alone. Ride a bike.

I got my old 5ME powered Cressida to 170-180 many times .... on my P's
ha ha
It was the best car at speed i've ever driven....magic....even with buggered shocks (virtually non existent).
The steering in that car was really precise and I loved it.
Not the biggest fan of the steering in my Soarer now though
The Soarer does get to the 180 a lot quicker though
